- Blackbook picks out the four best bets for Saturday racing
Randwick racing takes place on Saturday, May 25, with the 10-race program set for the Sydney metro meeting
We have the best bets picked out from across day with value selections for Randwick Racecourse.
Race 4: No.6 Hiawatha
The Annabel Neasham-trained HIAWATHA in back on track after falling when first-up this preparation and looks well placed here to challenge for the major prize.
Last start, the former Irish galloper was third-up when he finished a gallant second in a Class 1 set weights event over 2100m at Gosford on a Heavy 8 that day.
After colliding with another runner at barrier rise, he was caught wide early before finally settling one out, one back.
He chased the winner home all the way and did well to grab second prize in the end.
He should be at his peak after three runs back and the extra distance here looks ideal for him now.
Neasham makes a major gear change here, slipping the tongue tie on for the first time as Chad Schofield is legged aboard for his first ride on the four-year-old.
Dropping 3kgs from his last start, the former Aiden O’Brien-trained gelding looks set to give us a big show for our investment.
Race 7: No.14 The Black Cloud
Joe Pride saddles-up THE BLACK CLOUD here who resumes after four months off the scene and after two recent trials looks ready to hit the scene with a win here.
Last start, the Shamus Award filly ended her first (three-start) campaign by finishing an unlucky second in a BM72 over 1200m at Rosehill.
After winning her first two race starts, she was shooting for the hat-trick that day and trying to lead all the way, she was grabbed on the line and left to take home second prize that day as they ran the trip in a swift 1:09.3.
Jay Ford has been with her for every start to date and steers the ship again in this contest.
She has drawn barrier eight here and with plenty of early gate speed, she maps to settle on the pace again.
Already a winner when first-up, the three-year-old returns over a shorter trip here which should be ideal on fresh legs and she will take catching here.
Race 9: No.7 Speycaster
The Chris Waller-trained SPEYCASTER is in top-shelf form after four starts back and looks well placed here to bring up the hat-trick.
Last start, the Highland Reel gelding came off an impressive win in BM72 company at Canterbury when he franked that effort by going back-to-back in a harder BM78 event over 2200m on a Heavy 9 at Newcastle.
After jumping from the outside gate (12), he settled last of the 12 runners and in the run home, Josh Parr secured a run near the fence and drove him to the line, arriving in time to grab the major prize.
He steps-up in class again here, taking on a BM88 contest and has Parr sticking with him for this assignment.
Drawn better here and dropping 2kgs for the event, he looks a solid winning chance and at odds, is well worth an each-way ticket.
