Port Macquarie Racing Tips for October 9 – Bear on the Loose to bounce back in Port Macquarie Cup

Cosmic Jinks has been knocking on the door in recent times and looks set to break through in the opener at Port Macquarie. The Brett & Georgie Kavanagh-trained filly has had three runs this preparation and has filled the runner-up spot in the past two. The most recent of those came over the track and trip, where she worked hard early from a wide barrier to sit outside the leader. She took over on straightening but was left a sitting duck late, with Markwell Topsort running her down. The daughter of Cosmic Force should get a more economical run this time from the better barrier and will be at peak fitness. This should be her day.

Going with Trinity State to make it two wins from as many starts when she steps out in Race 3. The three-year-old made her debut over 1190m at Grafton recently, settling handy before clicking through the gears from the 400m and recording an impressive two-length debut win.She looked to have a bit in reserve on that occasion, and this is not a big leap in grade. The daughter of Yes Yes Yes draws perfectly in barrier 3 and, with improvement to come at her second start, she should be very hard to beat.

Going with Bear On The Loose to bounce back in the $200,000 Port Macquarie Cup. The Waterhouse/Bott galloper punctured badly when resuming over 1900m at Rosehill late last month, finishing last, but has clear scope for improvement. He was never comfortable on what was a scorching tempo that day and had a bit of a blowout after drawing barrier 12 with 61.5kg on his back. The seven-year-old draws much better this time and drops 3.5kg, while he may be able to get things more on his own terms with less pressure up front. Expect a much-improved showing.
