Moonee Valley Racing Tips for August 23- Oak Hill to take out the Carlyon Stakes

Jennivamoose can go on with the job in Race 2. The lightly raced mare loves the Moonee Valley circuit and was dominant over the 2500m at her most recent start when closing off strongly to defeat Bluestone by more than a length. She has had four runs now off a long spell and looks to have come back an even better horse. The six-year-old achieved a career peak last time by going more than nine lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner in this race. When she was deep into her last preparation she was an unlucky and narrow runner-up in a strong form race at the track and trip behind Strawberry Rock. The daughter of Vadamos draws to land a little closer than her most recent start and will be hard to beat. 

Hard to go past Oak Hill in the feature of the day, the Carlyon Stakes (1000m). The promising galloper from the Hayes stable toyed with a number of the rivals he meets again in this race at his last start, which came at the track and trip on August 9, winding up and drawing clear to go on to win by more than a length from Boston Rocks. The five-year-old has now won four of five at the Valley and should have improvement to come at the second run of his current campaign. Earlier this year, he improved four lengths on figures when second up, despite bombing the start badly  when missing out behind Unflinching. He draws perfectly in barrier 4 and can stalk the leaders. Expect him to be hard to hold out in the dying stages in the straight. 

Keen on Hard To Cross in Race 8. The six-year-old has was smashed in the betting just after acceptances on Wednesday and should be cherry ripe to find his best after four runs this time in. The Patrick & Michelle Payne-trained gelding has placed at his last two starts and just lacked the dash late in the piece under the 60kg impost last time at Flemington when 3rd behind Too Darn Discreet. He came on in leaps and bounds at a similar stage of his last preparation when sticking to the distance range and drops 7kg on his recent run. The son of All Too Hard is a previous track winner and has the racing pattern to be suited here after drawing barrier 3.
