Race 2: No.2 John’s Road
The Peter Duncan-trained galloper is third-up today and looks well placed to finally ring-up his first career win in this event.
Last start, the So You Think gelding was second-up when he put in his best effort to date, beating all but one home in a Maiden Hcp, here over 1300m with Jason Taylor in the saddle.
He settled second in the race before taking over inside the final 200m but was (again) beaten home by one better on the day.
That was a vast improvement from his first-up effort and he strips even fitter for this assignment with Taylor steering the ship again today.
The five gets the gun-run from gate one and with a trouble-free run to the line, is capable of going one better in this contest.
Race 5: No.1 Spirit Of Mac
Second-up today, the Tracy Simmons-trained galloper looks well placed to give this event a real shake.
Last start, the Spirit Of Boom gelding resumed off a 15-week spell and in need of the run, finished unplaced in a Class 2 Hcp over 1000m at Townsville.
Having his first start for the stable, he was never on the track, trapped four-wide without cover and over the sprint distance was unable to cover the extra ground and be a threat at the finish.
Wearing winkers for the first time today, Ryan Wiggins is booked for the ride and from gate six, the five-year-old maps to settle just behind the early speed.
Already a winner when second-up, his debut appearance at Mackay could well be a winning one today.
Race 6: No.1 Don’tdoubthelady
The Rockhampton-based galloper resumes off a 19-week break today and on fresh legs, looks the best of the day in this event.
Last start, the Dubious filly ended her last campaign finishing unplaced when she took on city-class company in the Listed Show A Heart over 1500m at Eagle Farm.
Sent out a $31 outsider, she settled mid-field and travelling wide all the way, was never a threat, finishing almost ten lengths from the winner.
Returning to the country scene today, Ryan Wiggins has the reins after steering her to victory on this track last preparation and from gate one, maps to be leading them on settling.
The three-year-old will find this challenge a lot easier today and while skinny with the bagmen, she is unbeaten in two previous first-up appearances and looks too good for her opposition in this contest.
