Race 4: No.3 Guy’s Last Prize
The Michael Sparrow-trained galloper is high-flying this time in and looks well placed here to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Prized Icon gelding was after the hat-trick and just missed when he beat all but one home in a BM58 over 1600m at Albury.
Lumping 61kgs on a Heavy 9 that day, Coriah Keatings settled him mid-field to the turn, then secured a split between runners and looked the likely winner but was beaten a head on the line by one carrying 6.5kgs less in weight.
Facing Class 2 opposition here, he draws gate seven and after steering him to victory three starts back at Moruya, Pierre Boudvillain returns for the riding duties today.
Fourth-up and at his peak here, the five-year-old carries 3.5kgs less today and looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 6: No.9 Midnight Affair
The Nick Olive-trained galloper is back at the top of her game lately and with a little luck at the gates today, she looks a big chance of taking out this event.
Last start, the Epaulette mare came off a win at Wagga and went back-to-back when she claimed victory in a BM58, here over 1600m.
Coriah Keatings had the mare sitting mid-field to the turn before coming off heels and once clear, finished too strong for them and went on to score by a length on the line.
Stepping up to BM66 company today, she drops in weight and jumps from gate 12 (of 14) where she maps to cross and settle near mid-field with Keatings in the saddle again.
At her peak after four runs back and in winning form, the six-year-old looks a serious player in this contest.
Race 7: No.13 Cold Brew
Team Freedman saddle-up Cold Brew here who is in top-shelf form this preparation and looks a major threat to victory in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Pierro gelding came off an impressive win at Rosehill when he faced metro grade gallopers again and franked that win by taking out a BM78 over 1600m at Randwick.
On a Heavy 9 that day, Chad Schofield settled him near mid-field to the turn before tracking three-wide into the straight and from there, he ran home doggedly but finished too strong for them in the end to claim the gold medal.
Fourth-up and at his peak today, he has the runs on the board and in winning form at the moment, looks a major player in this year’s Cup.
