Flemington Racing Tips for October 5 - Sghirripa to find his mojo down the Flemington straight

Moby Dick should be hard to beat in the opener. The promising galloper from the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr stable has had the five career starts for three wins and resumed with an impressive performance at Flemington over the 1100m, overcoming traffic from the 400m to the 100m before rattling late to arrive in time from Headwall and Baraqiel, who has since claimed a BenchMark 84 at Moonee Valley. Moby Dick went seven lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. He held his form at his debut preparation when second up, going from a Maiden win at Pakenham to a three-length win in BenchMark 64 grade. The son of Toronado has clearly come back in good order and draws to be well placed in the middle of the bunch down the straight. 

Arran Bay can go close in the Paris Lane Stakes. The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper resumed with a solid 4th on a Heavy deck at Flemington on September 14 and settled handy before sticking on. The six-year-old has some proven second up form with four wins from five starts at this stage, including a victory at the track and trip at his last preparation ahead of So Risque. He then went on to win again at Flemington after that. The son of All Too Hard won’t mind a bit of sting out of the track with showers forecast on Friday and Saturday, while he should land in the running line from barrier 7 with Dan Stackhouse on board. 

Happy to be with Young Werther each-way all day in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes. The Danny O’Brien-trained galloper does tend to mix his form but tends to produce some of his best for the track and trip, while he comes off a strong win at Caulfield over the 2000m when fresh off a nine-week break on August 31. That came over the 2000m and he settled outside the leader before taking over with 200m to go and holding off the challengers. He was a dominant winner in the Australian Cup Prelude (1800m) in the autumn off a similar pattern before finding the hot pace that was set by Pride Of Jenni against him in the Australian Cup (2000m). But other runs over the 2000m here have been full of merit and he draws to enjoy a perfect run from barrier 2. 

Sghirripa can improve off a first up effort that saw him place 3rd at Morphettville on September 14. The five-year-old carted the 61kg in a Listed race and settled worse than midfield over the 1100m before running on. Form at Flemington over the 1200m is first class with a win in the Standish Handicap (1200m) earlier this year before a 7th in a hot Newmarket Handicap (1200m). The son of Lonhro drops 2.5kg from his recent run and will be partnered by Harry Coffey, sho is two from three for the stable.
