Race 3 No.6- Thespian Waters
Keen on the Tasmanian galloper, Thespian Waters, at the each-way quote in Race 3. The four-year-old did not look out of place at all at his first run in Victoria when resuming over the 1100m here on June 21. He attracted a bit of support in the market and was revved up just a fraction early, producing the fastest 600m-400m split and the second fastest 400m-200m before just peaking late to place 5th behind Marble Nine. The son of Headwater meets that horse 2.5kg better at the weights and has been a big improver second up on benchmark figures in his past two campaigns, while he was unlucky behind the gun galloper, The Inevitable, late last year in a couple of the best races Tasmania has to offer.
Race 6 No.5- She’s An Artist
Happy to take the short price for She’s An Artist. The Creswick Stakes has produced some absolute top liners in the past with Nature Strip, Gytrash and Front Page among the winners in the past 10 years. The Ciaron Maher-trained filly has won her two starts by a combined margin of nine lengths and might be on her way to scaling some of the heights set by that trio. She put the foot down in the final 400m in one of the key lead ups to this race over the 1100m down the straight last time, going a very impressive 14.4 lengths faster than standard. Hard to see the beaten brigade and those that come out of separate races presenting any danger here.
Race 8 No.13- Cafe Milennium
It is a bit of an ugly record of just two wins from 19 starts but Cafe Milennium might be beginning to deliver on some of the talent that he showed as a juvenile. He has been excellent in his two runs since switching to the Hayes stable, producing a real eye-catcher over the 1200m at Caulfield when resuming before taking out a BenchMark 84 over the 1400m at Flemington at his most recent start. In his winning performance last time, the son of Not A Single Doubt was held up on multiple occasions but was good enough to overcome that, producing the fastest last 400m and 200m. He is racing like the 1600m will suit, while he drops 4.5kg.
Race 9 No.1- Running By
She can be a bit hard to catch but early market support would suggest that we might see the better version of Running By this Saturday at Flemington. The Ciaron Maher mare does possess a bit of class and generally performs well over the 1400m. She comes into this with the two runs under her belt this time in and was supported second up at Sandown, looming into calculations at the 200m before just peaking slightly on her run to finish 3rd behind Hughes. She sticks to the 1400m and will strip fitter. John Allen rides and will look to land in the running line from barrier 8.
