Race 5: No.1 Abender
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper resumes here after five months off the scene and looks a big chance of first-up success in this event.
Last start, the Written By gelding ended his last preparation by finishing unplaced in a Class 3 Plate over 1200m at the Gold Coast.
Drawn wide, he was always well back in the field then in the run home, passed a few to cross the line mid-field in the 10-horse event.
Since returning to work, he has trialled twice, winning his most recent hit-out by three lengths over 1000m.
Drawn nicely in gate three, he maps to do no early work as he settles in the back half of the field with apprentice Bella Youngberry aboard for the first time.
After the claim, he carries just 57kgs and already a three-time winner at the track and distance, he looks in the mix for victory in this contest.
Race 7: No.1 Daggers
Tony Gollan saddles-up Daggers here who is in top-shelf form this preparation and ticks the boxes that suggest he will take beating in this event.
Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding made it six-straight podium finishes when he took out a Class 6 Hcp, here over 1615m.
From gate two, Ben Thompson took him straight to the lead where he set a solid pace to the turn, then with plenty left in the tank, he kept going and held them all at bay, winning by 1.5 lengths in the end.
Facing BM85 opposition here, he carries less weight (after the claim) and from gate six, maps to settle on the speed again with Leah Martyn as the new pilot.
A track and distance winner in career-best form, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 8: No.4 Taltarni Fields
The Kelly Schweida-trained galloper is third-up here and looks ideally placed for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Deep Field gelding showed a ton of improvement when he claimed victory in a One-Metro-Win Hcp, here over 1200m with Jace McMurray in the saddle.
Settling fourth, one off the fence, he tracked the leaders to the turn, before coming off heels then soon after took control and went on to score by a length on the line.
Facing Open company here, McMurray retains the ride and after the claim, the five-year-old carries 3kgs less for this assignment and from gate five, maps to settle just behind the early speed.
A track specialist here, his resume shows nine starts at Doomben for four wins and as many minor placings and already a winner when third-up, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
