Race 1: No.3 Jolly Good Fellow
The Chris Waller-trained galloper is three starts into this preparation and now looks ready to break through for his first success in this event.
Last start, he was third-up and finished bridesmaid (yet again) when he beat all but one home, here in a 1400m Maiden.
He trailed the leader into the home straight but was unable to bridge the gap, beaten just over a length on the line.
Waller puts him over further ground here as he steps-up to the 1550m trip and has Nash Rawiller as the new pilot for this mission.
From gate three, he maps to be box-seating again and at his peak after three runs back, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 5: No.5 Apex
The Team Hawkes-trained Apex has been impressive in both career starts to date and second-up here looks on target for back-to-back wins in this event.
Last start, the Exceedance gelding resumed off a six-month absence and showing no signs of fatigue, clobbered his rivals in a Maiden Hcp over 1100m at Hawkesbury.
He drew the outside gate (7) and travelled three-wide (with cover) to the turn before fanning even wider to take control and go on to win by more than two lengths over the line with Sam Clipperton in the saddle.
He is joined by Tim Clark for this assignment and from gate four, maps to settle just behind the speed.
A repeat of that first-up effort will see him very hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 6: No.5 She’s Unusual
The O’Shea & Charlton-trained galloper resumes off a 19-week spell here and boasting a strong first-up record, looks the one to beat in this event.
Last start, the Unusual Suspect mare ended her last campaign by bringing up career win number three when third-up she beat home a BM72 field over 1550m on Randwick’s Kensington track.
With Jason Collett in the saddle, she jumped from gate two and led from barrier to box, running her rivals off their feet as she put 2.5 lengths on them over the line.
From gate six here, she maps to settle near the speed with Collett steering the ship again and may even take a sit with plenty of early speed in this race.
She has the benefit of trialling twice recently and is already a two-time winner when first-up.
She is yet to miss a top-two finish in six career starts and with a trouble-free run here, she can keep that record intact in this contest.
Race 7: No.2 Body Bob
We’re shooting for some value here as the Pat Murphy-trained Body Bob comes to town again and currently in great touch, is capable of giving this event a real shake at odds.
Last start, the well-bred Written Tycoon gelding came off a good win at Wagga when he finished third in the Snake Gully Cup over 1400m at Gundagai.
He settled worse than mid-field that day and was just too far back in the run home to be a winning chance, having to settle for the minor prize in the race.
Molly Bourke has the honours as the new pilot here and drawn nicely in gate 4, the five-year-old maps to be near the speed when they settle.
He is a known country galloper but not to be sold short as his one and only visit to Canterbury ended in a win in BM72 company where he put almost four lengths on them that day.
Avoiding any drama in this contest, he looks well worth an each-way ticket here.
