The Team Hayes galloper has had the two career starts and has placed in both with those coming in Saturday grade at Sandown and Caulfield. He probably needed longer than the 1000m on debut when closing well before sticking on well for 3rd behind Superlicious, going five lengths faster than standard benchmark. The son of Lope De Vega has the early speed to slot into the forward half early on and might have a class edge on this lot. 

I Am Piki can go on with the job in Race 2 at the Valley. The filly from the Anthony & Sam Freedman stable was solid on debut when runner-up in a good form race at Echuca before rising to the 1200m at Mornington and prevailing by a length from Bedtime Angel, with those two putting up a bit of a gap on the rest of them. The daughter of I Am Immortal draws barrier 3 for this assignment and can measure up to the step in class. 

Anilla should be ready to show something at his third run back from a spell. The lightly raced seven-year-old has had two starts this time in and was unlucky when held up most of the straight when resuming at Bendigo on October 30 over the 1100m. He has since stepped out at Morphettville in a stronger race than this and placed 4th behind Jacks On Ice. The Team Hayes-trained galloper went 4.9 lengths fasteR than standard benchmark last time, which is the best last start figure of any runner. Look for Blake Shinn to position handy early on and the pair should be a factor in the finish. 

Willing to have something on Celui in the final race of the evening. The four-year-old drops significantly in grade and has produced some solid performances in harder company than this during the spring carnival. He was just a tad keen when last at Group 2 level in the McEwan Stakes (1200m) on Cox Plate day but wasn't far from the likes of Kin and Bellatrix Star in runs either side of that. He shouldn't have to work too hard in the early stages and draws perfectly in barrier 4 for what might be a confidence booster.
