The 2025 Melbourne Cup will be held on Tuesday November 4, 2025 and will be the 165th running of the race that stops a nation.

Via Sistina is favourite in most markets ahead of Vauban, while a host of names are on the third line of betting, including the 2023 exacta horses, Without A Fight and Soulcombe, as well as the likes of Buckaroo, Ceolwulf and Duke De Sessa
Here are our top three long range predictions for the 2025 Melbourne Cup.
Soulcombe
It was just about the run of the race in the 2023 Melbourne Cup when finishing 2nd after missing the jump. The talented stayer has been out of action since then due to injury with the Chris Waller stable taking their time with the lightly raced six-year-old. If the stable can get the son of Frankel back to full fitness, there is no reason to suggest why he cant be a factor in the 2025 Melbourne Cup. The former import has an excellent record at Flemington with a Group 2 win and a Turnbull Stakes (2000m) placing to complement his effort in the Cup.Fawkner Park
We didn't quite see the best of Fawkner Park in the spring in Melbourne. The one time Caulfield Cup favourite failed first up in the Underwood Stakes (1800m) then was sent back to Sydney, where he prevailed with the big weight in the Rosehill Cup (2000m). It is worth noting that in the autumn he defeated the eventual 2024 Melbourne Cup (3200m) winner, Knight’s Choice, in the Q22 (2200m) at Eagle Farm, a race that also provided the 2023 Melbourne Cup winner, Without A Fight. If the Anabel Neasham and Rob Archibald stable can get the best out of the former import, we can expect to see him go a long way at Flemington in 2025.Deakin
Positive signs for the Phillip Stokes stable with their imported galloper, Deakin, who registered his first win since coming over to Australia at Pakenham recently, toying with his opposition over the 2000m. His best should come in 2025 and over longer trips. The son of Australia will be set for a tilt at the Adelaide Cup (3200m) in March and with all going well, he will be set for the Melbourne Cup in the spring.Verdict
