Sha Tin Racing Tips for December 14 - Galaxy Patch is set for Group 1 success

Race 4: No.2 Al Riffa
Fresh off his Melbourne Cup campaign, the Joe O-Brien-trained galloper has enjoyed a five-week freshen-up off his Australian campaign and looks well placed to claim his fourth Group 1 success in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Wootton Bassett entire came off a seven-week break to take on the biggest two mile race in Australia and wasn’t disgraced when finishing seventh in the 24-strong field of the Melbourne Cup.
From gate 19, lumping 59kgs and trailing by more than 25 lengths at the 800m mark, he made up a ton of ground in the run home, finishing nine lengths from the winner in the end.
All things considered, his efforts that day were top-rate.
O’Brien puts the blinkers back on him for this assignment where he draws well in gate and maps to do no early work as he settles back in the field.
Reunited with his regular rider Dylan Browne McMonagle, the five-year-old drops in weight and comes back to the 2400m trip as well.
With a genuine pace up front today, the English galloper should enjoy the trail and will be doing his best work in the run home.
Race 6: No.5 Prestige Good
The Ricky Yiu-trained galloper is three starts into this preparation and now looks ready to strike in this event.
Last start, the Sacred Falls gelding was third-up and showed a ton of improvement when he beat all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 2000m.
In a fast-run affair, he settled just behind the leaders until the 600m mark where the speed was slapped on and in the run home, showed plenty of fight, beaten just a neck on the line.
James McDonald is legged aboard for the first time today where the five-year-old draws well in gate six and maps to settle just behind the speed again.
At his peak today, if the speed is on again, he should capitalise on it and with a trouble-free run home, looks set to ring-up his first win on the Sha Tin track.
Race 7: No.5 Galaxy Patch
Already a multiple Group 2 and Group 3 winner, the Pierre Ng-trained galloper ticks enough boxes here to suggest he can finally make it at the Group 1 level in this event.
Last start, the Wandjina gelding was second-up when he took out the Group 2 Jockey Club Mile, here over the 1600m trip.
With James McDonald aboard for the first time, he settled third-last on the fence, eight lengths off the lead, then in the run home, McDonald stuck to the inside and after scoring a dream rails run, finished best to claim victory on the line.
Well drawn again today, he maps to settle near mid-field from gate five and has J.Mac at the helm again.
Already a winner when third-up and boasting eight wins at the track as well, he looks a genuine chance of saluting in this contest.
Race 10: No.12 Public Attention
David Hayes saddles-up the Written Tycoon entire here and second-up today, will take beating in this event.
Last start, the four-year-old resumed after eight months off the scene and impressed when beating all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m.
Lumping 61kgs for his Hong Kong debut, he settled just behind the speed with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle and in the run home, fought on like a caged tiger and came within half a length of victory on the line, conceding 5kgs in weight to the winner (Sky Joy).
He steps-up in grade here and faces Class 2 company for the first time but drops dramatically in weight, carrying just 52kgs for this assignment.
Australian rider Craig Williams is the new pilot and from barrier eight, maps to settle better than mid-field with cover.
Fitter for that first-up run and now familiar with the Sha Tin track, if he can handle the class rise, big drop in weight will help his closing efforts here and should see him there at the finish.
