Sandown Racing Tips for August 2 – Double figure chances aplenty at Sandown on Sunday

Sandown racing takes place on Sunday, August 2, with a quality metropolitan meeting set down for Sandown.

Race 3 No.4- Smart Little Miss


Smart Little Miss is an each-way player in Race 3. The eight-year-old didnt do much when resuming here a fortnight ago when 9th over the 1000m behind Saluted but has an excellent second up record with three wins and three placings from seven starts. At her last preparation, she was a massive improver on benchmark figures at this stage when going from a well beaten 5th at Pakenham to a placing at Sandown. A Soft to Heavy track is a slight query but she has been specked at odds since markets opened, while she should enjoy a nice time of it from barrier 3. 

Race 5 No.8- Russian Front


Russian Front can go close in Race 5. The seven-year-old comes into tihs third up and was a big improver last time at Moe when an unlucky runner-up behind Struggle Street over the 1217m on a Heavy track. He was posted four-wide no cover for most of the trip but kept coming, only to go down in a tight one, while he held a three-length gap to the third horse. The son of Russian Revolution began to hit his straps at this stage of his last prepration and should enjoy a better time of it from barrier four, where he can box seat. The 2kg claimer, Jackson Radley, rides and has had success with the stable in recent times. 

Race 6 No.14- Don’t Doubt Dare


Don’t Doubt Dare is another that is near the double figure odds that represents value at Sandown on Sunday. The Michael Kent mare gets out to the 2100m and failed at her only go at the distance range last spring when 10th in the Geelong Classic (2200m) but drew wide that day and was back on a slow tempo, sticking on in ok fashion. She has had a number of runs under the belt since then and comes in more seasoned, while her recent performances suggest she can be a major factor. The four-year-old was 4th on the Hillside circuit over the 1600m two starts ago before having a crack at a 1700m Saturday race at Flemington on July 18. She settled back and was held up at a crucial stage at the top of the straight before working home well for 4th, going a very respectable 11.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark. The daughter of Doubtland draws to get a cosy run from the inside barrier and her only win did come on Soft ground. 

Race 7 No.3- Zebra Finch


Zebra Finch gets his chance in Race 7. The Godolphin galloper has won just once in 11 starts but has been respectable from very wide gates at her past couple of starts in harder races than this at Flemington, finishing 6th behind Clever Trevor and Kaleo in two starts in July. He worked up from the draw last time to settle handy but used plenty of petrol tickets, going 11 lengths faster than standard until the 600m. The son of Exceed And Excel finally draws a barrier and will be full of fitness after four runs, while he will be ridden by the 2kg claimer, Jabez Johnstone, who strikes at 29% for the stable, providing a 34% profit on investment for punters.
