Sale racing takes place on Friday, August 21, with a competitive country meeting set down for Sale.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is one of two meetings in Victoria on Friday, running alongside the meeting at Swan Hill.

Race 1 No.8- Wolves Den

Wolves Den was an improver when stepping up to the 1700m at his most recent outing and looks set to break through in the opener at Sale. The Julius Sandhu-trained galloper produced a career-best effort when settling handy to the lead before just being outkicked in the concluding stages by Frank Whisper. That came on a Soft deck at Geelong and he is likely to get similar conditions for this assignment, while he should enjoy the run of the race, sitting leaders' back from barrier 1 with Jake Noonan on board. Noonan's last 50 rides for the stable have yielded a 48% profit on investment.

Race 6 No.5- Tower Bridge

Ciaron Maher has Gringotts lining up in Saturday’s Winx Stakes, while Tower Bridge is another from the stable worth keeping an eye on at Sale. The four-year-old returned in a Benchmark 70 at Sandown on July 29 and was posted out wide without cover for much of the trip after beginning awkwardly. He burnt plenty of fuel from the 600m to the 400m before sticking on well to finish 4th. In his debut preparation, he improved from a 4th placing first-up to win when second-up. He just needs a cleaner getaway here and his best performances have come when punched out to lead.

Race 8 No.11- Angland Lass

It was an excellent debut by Angland Lass at Bendigo a couple of weeks ago and the Hayes mare can measure up to this grade at her second start. At Bendigo, the new season four-year-old jumped well from the wide barrier but could not land with cover and was trapped wide before working into it at the business end and showing plenty of grit to hold out her rivals by just under a length. This is harder but she should have scope for improvement at her second career start and draws much better this time around in barrier 3.
