Race 5: No.9 Lord Penman
The Chris Waller-trained galloper is having just his second start for the stable and if he can overcome the wide gate, he will be a force in this event.
Last start, the former NZ’er made his Australian debut and impressed when beating all but one home in a BM94 over 1200m at Rosehill.
Kerrin McEvoy settled him back in the field before working home well to grab second prize in the heavy conditions.
The four-year-old has the outside gate (13) here and will need a little luck at the start but with James McDonald (J.Mac) in the saddle and a trouble-free run, he can figure in the finish of this contest.
Race 7: No.2 Ceolwulf
Joe Pride saddles-up Ceolwulf here who is second-up and ticks all boxes that suggest he is the token galloper in this event.
Last start, the Tavistock gelding resumed off a 19-week break ans caught the eye when finishing fourth in the Group 1 Winx Stakes.
A clear last on the home turn, Chad Schofield crossed heels to be the widest on straightening and stormed home to finish just behind the placegetters, beaten 2.5 lengths on the line but should have finished closer.
Stepping up to the mile trip here, he draws ideally in gate two and maps to settle better than mid-field on the fence with Schofield in pride of place again.
Already a two-time winner when second-up and has saluted twice at the track and distance, the indications are the five-year-old will take a ton of beating in this contest.
Race 8: No.4 Lady Shenandoah
Chris Waller’s champion mare resumes here and after three lead-up trials, looks ready to strike on fresh legs in this event.
Last start, the Snitzel mare wound-up an unbeaten campaign when she completed the hat-trick by taking out the Group 1 Coolmore Classic over 1500m at Rosehill.
With J.Mac aboard, she pulled out all stops to fight off the challenges and secure her third Group 1 success from as many attempts.
The four-year-old returns to the track in an easier Group 3 event with J.Mac retaining the ride where she gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to settle better than mid-field on the fence.
With all things going according to plan, she looks every chance of picking up where she left off and increasing her winning streak to six-straight in this contest.
