Race 7: No.4 Bunker Hut
The Michael Freedman-trained galloper is third-up here and looks ideally placed to make his first look at Doomben a winning one in this event.
Last start, the Savabeel gelding was second-up and did well to finish third in a BM94 over 1200m at Rosehill.
On a Heavy 8 that day, conditions were against him but after box-seating on settling, he fought on gamely to score the minor prize in the race, beaten just half a length on the line.
Preferring drier ground, he will appreciate the forecast conditions here where he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be box-seating again and after 3kg claim from Jace McMurray, is well weighted for his Doomben debut.
Fitter for two runs back, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 8: No.11 Naval Trader
Matt Hoysted saddles-up Naval Trader here who is second-up and ticks all boxes that suggest he will take beating in this event.
Last start, the Merchant Navy gelding resumed off a 13-week spell and impressed when beating all but one home in Open company, here over 1200m.
He settled back in the field before scouting wide on the turn, then finishing strongly, running the best final 200m sectional, beaten a whisker on the line.
Luke Dempsey is legged aboard for the first time here and from gate two, does no early work as he maps to settle near mid-field.
Boasting a sound second-up record and already a winner at the track and distance, he should play a serious role in the outcome of this contest.
Race 9: No.5 About To Explode
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper is third-up here and already in great touch, looks set to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Spirit Of Boom gelding improved enough when second-up to claim victory in a BM78 over 1200m at Eagle Farm.
Ben Thompson settled him two pairs back (on the fence) before finishing strongly and after taking over inside the final 200m, he went on to win by a length on the line.
Meeting similar company here, Thompson has the reins again and from gate nine, he maps to settle near mid-field.
Fitter for those two runs back and already a winner when third-up, he can give this contest a real shake with a trouble-free run.
