Pakenham Racing Tips for August 10 – Watten Assett ready to break the Maiden

Pakenham racing takes place on Monday, August 10, with a competitive provincial meeting set down for Pakenham.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.

Race 1 No.8- Mirador 


Mirador is the one to beat in the opener. The Hayes galloper is yet to win in four starts but has been ok in the city in her two starts this time in when slowly away in both. She was in a hopeless position early on a slow tempo when resuming at Caulfield over the 1000m but worked home well to finish just two lengtsh off Lucky Brook then had things go against in the small field last time at Sandown when 4th. She went 2.5 lengths slower than standard at Sandown and nearly two lengths faster at Caulfield, which is a different ballpark to what her rivals in this race have produced so far. She should be too classy and just needs to handle the surface. 

Race 5 No.5- Watten Assett


Watten Assett should be hard to beat in Race 5. The four-year-old is yet to win in six starts but has finished runner-up in three of those. He resumed at Sale on July 27 over the 1100m and was ok given the circumstances after drawing wide and finishing 8th when not quite at his best on the Soft track. First up at his last preparation, the Simon Zahra-trained galloper produced a similar run when 7th at Kilmore before just missing out at Echuca when second up in a race that produced five winners. He draws much better for this assignment and has been well supported in the early betting. Expect him to settle closer and be hard to get past at the business end. 

Race 8 No.6- Lady Elsa


Lady Elsa should be ready to produce when she steps out in Race 8. The locally trained galloper has had two runs this time in and has finished 6th with both of those coming on the Pakenham Synthetic. She rose to the 1600m last time and drew wide before settling back on a slow tempo then closing off with the fastest last 200m. She can land a little closer this time from barrier 3 and is a previous winner here.
