The Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) remains one of Australia’s great handicaps and the middle leg of the Victorian Autumn Sprint Triple Crown.
First run in 1884, it has been won by champions including Schillaci, Fastnet Rock, Snitzel and Lankan Rupee, and regularly produces high-pressure, high-tempo contests at Caulfield.
This year’s edition is deep and varied, with form lines converging from the Schillaci Stakes, Adams Stakes and multiple spring feature races.
Point Barrow, the lone three-year-old filly, brings significant upside and a massive weight pull at 50kg. She has been heavily backed since the barrier draw and profiles as a get-back, run-on type who will rely on tempo. If she produces a new peak, she is right in this, but backers are banking on progression against seasoned sprinters.
Way To The Stars produced the best last-start benchmark figure in the field when winning the Adams Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield, rating 11.8 lengths faster than standard benchmark, with Geegees Mistruth third after being held up and arguably unlucky not to win. Oak Hill defeated Don’t Hope Do at this track and trip last start, running more than seven lengths faster than standard, and boasts the best individual figure of any runner in the race over the past two years — 17.5 lengths faster than standard when third behind Beast Mode at The Valley.
Tropicus is another with elite credentials. He won first up last prep at Caulfield over 1100m running 14 lengths faster than standard benchmark and later finished second to Giga Kick in the Schillaci Stakes. He loves the circuit and will take catching if allowed to dictate.
Gallant Son, She’s Bulletproof and Don’t Hope Do add further pace pressure, while Hedged and Spywire bring competitive handicapping profiles. The race looks stacked for speed and late closers may be suited if they can secure clear air.

Expect a rock-solid tempo.
Gallant Son (3), She’s Bulletproof (4), Don’t Hope Do (7), Tropicus (9) and Bridal Waltz (12) all push forward. Way To The Stars (14) may attempt to cross despite the wide barrier, adding further pressure early.
Hedged (5), Spywire (6) and Geegees Mistruth (1) should settle just off that leading wave. From the inside, Geegees Mistruth will need luck but maps to enjoy a soft run if gaps appear.
Point Barrow (10) and Oak Hill (11) are likely to settle back and rely on the genuine speed to bring them into the race.
Given the expected tempo and typical Caulfield pattern later in the day, those settling midfield with cover look ideally placed.

Geegees Mistruth
Her run behind Way To The Stars in the Adams Stakes was better than it reads after being held up at a crucial stage. She was a big improver second-up last preparation and now maps to get the perfect smother from barrier one if Michael Dee can angle into clear air. With a strong tempo expected and her trial reportedly outstanding, she ticks a lot of boxes and looks poised to break through at Group 1 level.

Don’t Hope Do
At the weights he is well placed and maps to be part of the speed without necessarily having to burn excessively from barrier seven. If he can avoid overcooking the early sectionals and pinch a breather mid-race, he has the figures to stick on at a price. In a high-pressure handicap, he represents the overs play for those looking beyond the favourites.
