Mornington Racing Tips for April 19- Berkshire Breeze is the one to beat in the Mornington Cup

Berkshire Breeze should be hard to beat in the Mornington Cup. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper has been building up nicely at his current preparation and was solid when 4th at Flemington when second up in the Australian Cup Prelude (2000m) before going stride for stride with Deakin in the Roy Higgins Quality (2600m), missing out in narrow fashion to that horse but putting four lengths on the rest of them, going a healthy 11.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark. At this stage of his last preparation he went 14 lenghts faster than standard benchmark to take out the Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) at Flemington. Ben Melham will look to slide across in the early stages to sit just behind the speed set by Smokin’ Romans and Just Fine and the pair will be strong late in the piece. 

She’s Dances can go close in the Hareeba Stakes. The Moody/Coleman mare should be suited at Mornington and had excuses at Flemington over the 1000m last time when never getting a clear crack at them. She usually lands on the speed and only went down late when 3rd prior to that at Caulfield. The daugther of Street Boss gets out to the 1200m and has an excellent record at the distance with six wins and two minor placings from nine starts. She should enjoy the run of the race from barrier 2 and will be ridden by Lina Meech, who has had plenty of success aboard her in the past.

Prancing Spirit can end the day a winner. The five-year-old has not scored in over a year but arguably should have at his last start when desperately unlucky behind Heart Of Glass over the 1200m at Caulfield on April 5. He was held up from the turn until the 100m mark and just missed. That looks to be the form for this. The son of Sir Prancelot has had four runs this time in and his best form was when deep into his preparation late in 2023. Look for him to settle closer to the speed for this race after drawing much better in barrier 3 and he should be hard to get past late in the piece.
