Race 3: No.4 Royal Chic
The Team Archibald-trained galloper is three starts into this preparation and on firmer ground today, looks poised to challenge for the big prize in this event.
Last start, the Graff filly came off her Muswellbrook Maiden win when she stepped-up to Class 1 competition and in the wet conditions, finished unplaced in the 1400m event at Newcastle.
With apprentice Olivia Dalton aboard, she settled last early and could still see them all on straightening where she battled on gamely but on Heavy 8 surface, couldn’t make any ground in the run home, although beaten just 2.5 lengths on the line.
Meeting similar company here the forecast Soft 5 conditions look ideal for her where she draws gate two and maps to settle mid-field on the fence with Mitchell Bell as the new pilot.
At her peak today after those three runs back, the three-year-old looks in the mix to bring-up her second career win in this contest.
Race 7: No.10 Curly Bend
Anthony Warren saddles-up Curly Bend here who is in great touch this time in and looks well placed to figure in this event at odds.
Last start, the Star Turn mare found the podium for the fourth time this campaign when she finished third in a BM58, here over 1100m.
From gate seven, was never on the track, travelling four-deep to the turn, but still managed to grab the minor prize, beaten just a length on the line after covering so much extra ground.
Stepping-up to Class 3 opposition today, she drops 3kgs for the assignment and from gate five, maps to settle near mid-field with cover.
Lee Magorrian retains the ride and at the top of her game at the moment, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 8: No.5 The Eyes Have It
The Luke Pepper-trained galloper is third-up today and ticks enough boxes to suggest she is a major player in this event.
Last start, the Brutal mare showed a ton of improvement off her first-up effort when she beat all but one home in a BM58 here over 1100m.
From gate nine (of 10), Brodie Loy settled her second outside the leader to the turn, then in the run home tracked wide looking for firmer ground and took control inside the final 200m but was run down by one better on the day.
Drawn much better today in gate four, she maps to settle just behind the speed with Loy steering the ship again.
Two starts here have both ended in top-two finishes and third-up today, the four-year-old should prove hard to beat in this contest.
