Geelong Racing Tips for August 14 – National Code to shake of bridesmaid tag

Geelong racing takes place on Friday, August 14, with a competitive provincial meeting set down for Geelong.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.

Race 2 No.4- Marron


Marron shapes as a likely improver and looks worth considering at each-way odds in Race 2. The Enver Jusufovic-trained galloper has had just one start, which came in a stronger Maiden at Sandown last month. He did plenty wrong on debut, butchering the start before overracing, yet still produced the fastest splits from the 800m to the 400m before running out of petrol tickets late to finish a well-beaten sixth. There has been plenty of substance to that form, with both the winner and fourth placegetter going on to win since. The five-year-old had trialled well prior to his debut and should have taken plenty of improvement from the experience. If he can settle better this time around, barrier 2 should allow him to enjoy a much softer run in transit and give him every chance to show his best.

Race 7 No.5- National Code


She has developed into a bit of a bridesmaid with three consecutive runner-up podium’s but National Code looks well worth another chance when she steps out in Race 7. The Team Hayes galloper was solid behind the unbeaten Tennessee Bound three starts ago and has settled back at her past couple. She stepped out as a $2.60 favourite at Swan Hill last time and settled towards the back in a race where they crawled early on. She produced the fastest splits from the 600m to the 200m before the lack of early speed counted against in the end with Sunday Funday leading all the way. The Written Tycoon draws wide and is likely to get back again but the pace looks genuine here. She has had two starts at the track for a win and a placing and should be hard to hold out at the business end. 

Race 8 No.10- Hotel Senshi


Hotel Senshi is worth thought in the final race of the day at Geelong. The four-year-old has had the four starts, winning on debut at Wangaratta earlier this year, and went down in narrow fashion when resuming at Bendigo before tackling a Saturday race at Caulfield on July 25 over the 1400m, placing 7th behind Lauberhorn. He was slowly away and worked into it before they cornered before sticking on well to go more than seven lengths faster than standard benchmark. This is a significant class drop and the step up in trip looks to be his go, while the son of Maurice shouldn't be daunted by the likely Soft-Heavy track.
