Race 3 No.2- Nadal
Nadal shapes as an each-way contender in the Fisher Stakes (1200m). The lightly raced five-year-old can be hard to catch but was ok over the 1000m when resuming at Caulfield at Group 2 level last month, looming up before just peaking on his run late when 5th behind Rey Magnerio. He will take the fitness benefit out of that hitout and at his last campaign he was a seven length improver on benchmark figures when second up and scoring at Caulfield over the 1100m, while he was unlucky when a close 4th in this race last year just after that. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper draws to enjoy a nice smother from barrier 12 and will end up in what is often the better part of the track for the straight race, while he will be suited by the tempo with the likes of Stay Focused and Front Page in the field.
Race 6 No.10– Tentyris
Tentyris steps out in the Champions Sprint (1200m) as the new star of the sprinting ranks after his explosive Coolmore Stud Stakes victory last week. The three-year-old colt produced one of the most dazzling performances of Cup Week, overcoming trouble in the run to rate +13.5 lengths above benchmark — elite figures that compare with past greats. Anthony Freedman backs him up here against seasoned Group 1 performers like Giga Kick and Joliestar, but the colt’s sectional speed and Flemington pattern make him the one they all have to beat. Drawn ideally to stalk the speed and launch late, Tentyris looks ready to follow in the footsteps of former three-year-old like Bivouac and Pharein to have won this race.
Race 7 No.7 – Pride Of Jenni
Pride Of Jenni returns to the scene of her breathtaking Empire Rose demolition last week where she set up a big early margin and still powered clear to win by 4.5 lengths. The fierce front-runner comes in on the seven-day backup and alot will depend on whether or not her rivals let her get away in the early to middle stages but she has done the Empire Rose/Champions Mile double in 2023, while she has also performed well on Soft tracks. Banking on Declan Bates being able to control the race from the front, a strategy that has worked in seven of his past 13 rides on the eight-year-old, providing just under a 400% profit on investment.
