Echuca racing takes place on Monday, October 19, with a competitive country meeting set down for Echuca.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.

Race 3 No.6 – Magnusaurus Rex

Magnusaurus Rex should be hard to beat in Race 3 at Echuca. The Robbie Griffiths-trained galloper has had two career starts, making his debut at Sale over 1200m when closing off strongly and recording the fastest final 200m of the race to finish sixth. He has since stepped out at Cranbourne, finishing fifth behind Ren Arson in a race that has produced three subsequent winners, including the winner, who went on to claim a Benchmark 62 by three lengths. The runner-up and third placegetter have also subsequently broken through in maiden company, adding further merit to the form. The son of Magnus produced a performance that was 4.5 lengths faster than the standard benchmark at Cranbourne, more than five lengths better than the next-best last-start figure of any runner in this field. He draws to settle within striking distance in the small field and should appreciate the experience gained from his first two outings. This looks an excellent opportunity to break through.

Race 7 No.6 – Sacred Chord

Sacred Chord has struck a purple patch of form, winning two of his past three starts before another competitive performance at his most recent outing. The six-year-old changed stables to Rachael MacDonald and immediately broke through at the picnics, defeating Exemia with the pair putting a clear margin on the remainder of the field. He then headed to Strathalbyn in South Australia and claimed a 0–56 Handicap over 1200m before finishing runner-up at Mildura, where he overcame interference at the start to settle handy and chase home Rosso Rosso in Benchmark 62 company. The fourth horse from that race has since come out and won at Balaklava, adding further merit to the form. Sacred Chord drops back to Benchmark 56 company and draws the inside barrier, which should allow him to enjoy the box seat. If the gaps open at the right time, he can chalk up another win.

Race 8 No.1 – Adieu Grasse

Adieu Grasse can finish the day on a winning note at Echuca. The four-year-old broke through two starts ago at Tatura over 1000m, overcoming a tough run when posted three wide without cover throughout before defeating Iron Super by half a length. That race has since produced two winners, including the runner-up, who came out and won his maiden at his next start by five lengths. The son of Omaha Beach has had one run since, stepping out at Kilmore over 1100m as a $41 outsider. He pushed forward to settle handy and battled on well for third behind Frosted In Time, just tiring late. He comes back to 1000m and looks likely to settle in front or just outside the leader from barrier six, with little obvious pressure drawn to his outside. He does have to contend with the hefty impost of 62kg but is fit and in form, while Ryan Hurdle takes the ride. Hurdle has had eight rides for the stable for two winners, providing a profit on turnover of more than 200%. He should take plenty of catching.
