Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Eagle Farm on 28 February.

Race 1: Class 3 Hcp (1000) – Galactic Star

The Stuart Kendrick-trained galloper resumed off a 15-week spell on Saturday and did it in style with an impressive win in this contest. A clear last on settling, he trailed the field to the turn where Ben Thompson crossed heels and had him as the widest runner before storming home to win with something to spare in the end. He appears to have benefited from the break and will only improve from here on.

Race 3: Jewel Prelude For Colts & Geldings (1000m) – Boomtowns

The Tony Gollan-trained youngster couldn’t have been more impressive on debut as he came from back in the field to grab an unlikely win in this event.  Settling second last and caught three wide without cover, he never improved from that position and took the turn as the widest of them before Ben Thompson wound him up where he stormed home to grab victory right on the line. A sign of things to come ? Keep him safe for now.

Race 4: Jewel Prelude For Fillies (1000m) – Esperanza

The Spirit Of Boom filly came off a debut win and turned plenty of heads with a close-up second in this event on Saturday. Unwanted as a $17 chance on debut, she won that event at Doomben, then on Saturday, punters sent her out as a $20 outsider again where she almost spoilt the party on the odds-on favourite when a fast finishing second in the 1000m sprint. Coming from well back in the field, the REX Lipp-trained filly came within a length of victory, taking plenty of ground off the winner in the process. Don’t let this one slip under your guard.
