Here are our blackbookers and horses to follow from the action.
Race 3 - 3yo Fillies (1200m) - Our Justify 👀 (4th)
Our Justify looks ready to break through at her next start after another eye-catching performance at Caulfield. The Jerome Hunter-trained filly was expected to settle closer, but after jumping well from a wide barrier, Craig Newitt elected to restrain rather than work hard early, settling near the rear with cover. She was briefly held up in the straight before finding clear running inside the final 200 metres and charging home to finish just over half a length from the winner. The run was backed up by the fastest final 200 metres of the entire meeting, highlighting the strength of her finish. With two placings from as many runs this preparation and expected to strip fitter third-up, the one-time winner appears ready to peak next time out.
Race 4 - Benchmark 78 (2000m) - Prince Eric 🥉 (3rd)
Prince Eric looks one to follow after producing a strong finishing effort from an impossible position. The Archie Alexander-trained galloper settled last over the 2000 metres after drawing wide in a race run at only a moderate tempo before producing the fastest final 400m and 200m of the race to charge into third behind Belle Savoir. A winner in Benchmark 84 company at Ballarat late last preparation, the five-year-old should strip fitter again and appears ready to peak at his next start in similar grade.
Race 6 - 3yo (1000m) - I'm Foxing 🥇 (1st)
I'm Foxing continued her rapid rise by making it four consecutive wins with a dominant four-length victory over 1000 metres. The Alex Rae-trained filly produced the best benchmark figures of the entire meeting, running 12.5 lengths faster than the standard benchmark. Allowed to use her natural speed, she controlled the race from the front before putting her rivals away with authority in the straight. The Listed Lightning Stakes at Morphettville shapes as a likely next target, while the stable believes she has the talent to measure up in better spring feature races.
