The Might and Power - Race 7 Caulfield - 2000 Metres
Anamoe is an out-and-out star, plain and simple, and as always he will be super tough to beat. But can you trust him after pulling up lame? The camp is confident in him and so are the vets, so he must be good to go and J Mac is there specifically for him, so a big run will most likely be in store. However, I’m Thunderstruck looms as a knockout chance as he looks to bounce back from a far-than-ideal run in the Underwood Stakes. The first barrier will allow him to sit much closer in the transit and launch a late dive at them like he usually does and at $4 extra in betting than Anamoe is currently, he is a great each-way play. Zaaki is always a contender in any race he is in, but he is by far the most inconsistent superstar of Australian racing so he is always a danger to be backing. Alligator Blood could potentially win another upset if the pace isn’t put on, just like last start, however, he steps up another 200 metres, which could be a major query.
The Caulfield Guineas - Race 8 Caulfield - 1600 Metres
Golden Mile is a short favourite in this one, but I feel as though he will justify his price. J Mac goes down to Victoria to ride him which shows you how much confidence the camp has in him. He has the Sydney form, which I believe is superior, has a strong win in the Ming Dynasty and a 4th in the Golden Rose, which reads so well here. Tijuana figures as the main danger to the favourite in my eyes. Proven at the distance with a win already, as well as form behind Aft Cabin, Berkeley Square and most importantly, Jacquinot. He’ll handle the conditions and the pressure of the race as well, great each-way chance. Berkeley Square is another key chance in this race, was once the favourite before Golden Mile came to town. One loss so far in its career and it was a narrow second, will most likely be in the finish. Osipenko is probably the roughie of the race and has talent in spades. The track was too wet for him last time out, but it’ll be much drier this time.
The Toorak Handicap - Race 9 Caulfield - 1600 Metres
I Wish I Win is the clear one to beat and for good reason. He has been a star in the making ever since crossing the shores over to Australia from the land of the Kiwis. Is he as good as they all say he is? This is the test. If he has a clear run to the line with 300 to go, watch him fly. Yes, he is at over $30, but Converge is in this race, right up to his neck. He is the classiest horse of the race with a win over Anamoe under his belt and plenty of good form on the dry decks, which he gets here for the first time in a long time. He is a massive watch in the market. Gentleman Roy is a measure of consistency, as is Military Expert. Both come into this race with strong knockout chances at value odds and will both be right near the front going around the final bend and could potentially go all the way with it.
The Silver Eagle - Race 8 Randwick - 1300 Metres
Boy, it's going to be wet wet wet at Randwick by the time the 8th race rolls around, so we are going to need horses that can get through that sort of weather. Waterford is the main one for me. Undefeated in the wet and just class personified. The only thing that keeps him out of the finish is severe on-pace bias. Mr Mozart is a deserved favourite, as he is a proven competitor who is also undefeated in the slop and a leader bias would play right into his hands. Loch Eagle presents as a great double figures chance after its fantastic run the last start where he swooped the entire field from a long way back. Finally, what to do with Espiona? The bubble has well and truly popped on her and to be honest, I never really bought into the hype, but last time on the heavy she smashed them, could she bounce back?

Selections: Waterford, I Wish I Win, I’m Thunderstruck, Golden Mile
