Light Infantry and Welwal are the internationals and they are wildcards. They bring in a completely different set of form that can’t really be judged properly until we see them on race day, but on paper, they are the bets of the race. One is the favourite at $3 and the other is at $20, you choose which one you want to play on, but I feel as though the value is the way to go. Because while Light Infantry looks to be in store for a massive career in Australia, Welwal reads just as well in my opinion and presents as 6 times the price of the favourite. Chain of Lightning has convinced Jamie Kah to ditch Derby Day just to ride her in the big money race and she figures as the best Australian chance to knock off the European raiders. She has never missed the trifecta and will go on all conditions and I would be shocked if she isn’t in the finish. Fangirl is the best-looking horse of the 2 Waller girls here, as she finally gets the rock-hard deck she’s been searching for. The only issue is she’s drawn very wide, but if Bowman finds cover, she’s in it up to her neck.

A midway worth $750,000 is just wild to think about, but V’Landys likes to throw his money around and now, for the second year running we have a big money race for Midway horses and it is a great opportunity for them. Kayobi is the favourite and is going for a 4th straight win of his young career. All 3 of his wins on the trot have been better than the last and he certainly has the scope to continue to improve here. Jamie Kah rides the value horse in Awesome Lad who will do his best work possible to get right into the race, considering it will be his specialty condition of a good deck. Adios Steve is another that is in good form as well, presents at double-figure odds and comes into this with a win over Kote, who has since gone on to win twice in very impressive fashion, so that reads well in itself. However, Mahagoni is the bet. He might be carrying 64kg, but a drop all the way back to this class after some dominant wins in much stronger fields in classes over 10 Benchmark Rating Points higher? Yeah, he is the bet to have each-way.
