Race 2: No.10 Harriet
The Troy O’Neile-trained galloper has found her mojo this time in and looks well placed here to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Irish-sired mare was third-up and showed enough improvement to claim victory in a BM50 Hcp over 1600m at Narromine.
From gate nine (of 10), Jacob Stiff settled her second-last before working her into the race approaching the turn, then in the run home, she still found plenty and went on to score by 1.5 lengths on the line.
Facing BM58 opposition here, she steps-up to the 1900m journey today and with the gun-run from gate one, maps to settle in the back half of the field, on the fence.
At her peak now and carrying less weight as well, the six-year-old looks the one to beat in this contest.
Race 5: No.3 Big Brad
The Team Cavanough-trained galloper has made a strong start to his racing career and looks set for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Goodfella gelding had just his second start and destroyed his rivals in a set weights Maiden Plate over 1400m at Dubbo.
Liberty Smyth took him straight to the lead on settling where he dictated the speed to the turn, then in the run home, he found a second wind and left the rest to fight out the minors, crossing the line more than three lengths clear in the end.
With Braith Nock as the new pilot today, he draws well in gate three and maps to be on the speed at barrier rise.
Even fitter for two runs in and dropping back to the 1300m trip, the three-year-old will take catching in this contest.
Race 7: No.6 Albert’s Pick
Troy O’Neile saddles-up Albert’s Pick here who is racing in career-best form of late and looks well placed here to figure in the finish of this event at odds.
Last start, the D'argento mare came off her maiden win at Tamworth when she beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 1150m on the Beaumont circuit at Newcastle.
Jenny Duggan settled her mid-field to the turn, then coming off heels she found clean air and ran home strongly to claim second prize, beaten by one stronger on the day.
This BM58 looks a little easier and from gate three, she maps to settle just behind the speed with Duggan steering the ship again.
With a hat-trick of recent podium finishes on her resume, the four-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
