The Moir Stakes is a race run over 1000m at Moonee Valley under weight-for-age conditions.
The race was first run in 1976 and has been won by some champion sprinters including Manikato (1982), Schillaci (1992) and more recently Black Caviar (2010 & 11).

1. Rothfire (1)
The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding won the Group 2 Victory Stakes during a successful winter campaign which also saw him runner-up in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.
He was impressive when resuming in the McEwen but was no match for the winner Imperatriz late.
Has finished in the top two in six of seven starts over 1000m and four of his nine career wins have been second up from a spell.
2. The Inferno (8)
The seven-year-old gelding has seven wins from 24 career race starts and three of those have been first up from a spell.
He closed out his last campaign when beaten just over a length at Listed level and he’d need to find another level to be winning this event.
3. Uncommon James (7)
A lightly raced five-year-old who has a fair amount of upside.
Has finished in the top two in nine of 10 career race starts including a win in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate earlier in the year.
His best is good enough and although this is his first trip to The Valley, a recent trial win suggests he’s ready to go first up.
4. Zoustyle (3)
Got to the lead early in the McEwen first-up but faded to finish fourth, beaten 3.8 lengths.
He is capable of producing a high rating performance but faces a tough task at this level.
5. Generation (2)
Has been over 600 days since his last win but he is a Group 3 winner at this track.
Chased well along the rails first up at Caulfield and the son of Snitzel should improve into this run.
Place chance at best.
6. Acromantula (4)
All three runs this prep have been at The Valley including a Listed race win at this distance.
Craig Williams was steering the day he won that race and retains the ride here from barrier four.
7. Imperatriz (5)
Won four of five last prep culminating in an impressive win in the Group 1 William Reid at The Valley.
Her win first up in the Group 2 McEwen was one of the best I have ever witnessed and could not have been much more arrogant.
She’s won 14 of 20 career starts and it will take a very good one, or bad luck, to get her beat on Friday night.
8. Asfoora (6)
Another mare that is putting together an impressive race record having now won seven of 12 overall.
This includes an impressive victory first up at Caulfield in The Heath over 1100m and she has won three of four at 1000m.
Will settle right on the speed which is always an advantage at The Valley and will give the favourite plenty to chase.
