Caulfield racing takes place on Saturday, April 27, with the 10-race program for Melbourne metro racing.

Race 1: No. 3 Bews

Bews returned to the races with a narrow defeat at this track and distance where he came from 10th on the turn and recorded the fastest closing sectionals of the race.

The son of I Am Invincible has finished inside the top two in six of his 11 career race starts and has not been far away in some much better graded races than this.

This particular race looks no harder than his first up effort and he can one better with even luck.

Race 4: No. 10 Naiconi

It was an incredible training performance by the McEvoy team to produce this lightly raced mare for a first up win after 71 weeks away from the races.

She settled fifth that day at Sandown and stormed clear in the final 200m to score by 1.3 lengths over 1200m.

During her last campaign in the spring of 2022 she finished second behind Vienna Princess at Listed level and she’s a mare with a heap of upside.

She’s well placed in this race and has drawn to get a lovely run in transit from barrier three.

Race 5: No. 4 Berkely Square

It has been a long time in between runs for this four-year-old son of Territories, in fact it was October 2022 when he won the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase.

All four runs this campaign have been full of merit and he was beaten only 1.5 lengths at Group 3 level over 2000m at Caulfield last time out.

He’ll be nearing peak fitness now and he’ll appreciate the step back in grade for this particular contest.

Race 9: No. 1 Hedged

This is an exciting young son of Capitalist who continues to go from strength to strength every time he’s seen at the races.

We last saw the three-year-old gelding when he was beaten by the barest if margins in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint which was a race full of top line horses.

He heads south in good shape, has drawn well in barrier four and the team has picked what looks a perfect race for him.
