Bendigo Racing Tips 27.10.2021 - Bendigo Cup Day
Bendigo hosts a nine-race card on Wednesday, October 27, and we have our four best bets available. It's Bendigo Cup Day, which features potential Melbourne Cup runners.

Race 3 1:35pm No. 5 The Billionaire
We couldn’t have been more impressed with The Billionaire at Morphettville last time out. The Freedman-trained four-year-old scored by 2.3 lengths, and with three wins and three placings from eight starts, he must be respected. The son of Written Tycoon runs his best races on firm tracks, so the conditions on Wednesday should be ideal.
He gets Jye McNeil in the saddle, who has been benefitting from Jamie Kah being sidelined. We’re not surprised by the money available with bookmakers, and he could start shorter on race day. He opened at $1.85 before firming to $1.80, so it could be one-way traffic on race day.
Race 6 3:20pm No. 13 Duchess of Dorset
Duchess of Dorset is a lightly-tried five-year-old mare who owns two wins from three starts. The daughter of Canford Cliffs kicked off her career with a win at Stawell by a length before running fourth at Warrnambool on a heavy surface. She showed plenty of pace when scoring by just under a length, and she had to cover ground throughout the 1000m race.
Drawing barrier four should give her an ideal run in transit, and Linda Meech is riding in excellent form. She’s a jockey that gives punters confidence, and her odds have dropped from an opening quote of $2.80 to $2.60. That is a solid move, and she should attract attention on race day.
Race 7 4:00pm No. 8 Smokin’ Romans
Smokin’ Romans didn’t get much luck when running second behind Wil John at Caulfield last time out. He had won three races in a row prior to that defeat, but he didn’t lose any admirers. He had to do a lot of work in the run, and still loomed to win the race late. The Maher/Eustace-trained five-year-old owns six wins from 16 starts, and although yet to win from two attempts at Bendigo, he has gone close.
Carrying 54kg will make him even harder to beat, and drawing barrier two with Jye McNeil in the saddle is ideal. We’re confident he can win the feature race of the day.
Race 8 4:40pm No. 12 Rousseau
The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old scored a win at Caulfield last preparation, which has been an excellent form guide. He got the better of many nice types, and the son of So You Think needed the run under his belt at Ballarat fresh up. He finished 3.5 lengths behind Hickok and Flying Mascot, with the latter winning a top race at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day.
Drawing barrier 11 shouldn’t be a problem, and punters get each-way odds to enjoy. The son of So You Think is likely to settle back and hope for a drag into the race. He has yet to miss a win or placing at the distance, so we’re happy to take the odds.
