Yogi kicks off Cups campaign early
Yogi just missed out on a start in the Melbourne Cup last year and now the stayer is starting his Cups campaign early.
The talented type lines up in Saturday's Winter Cup at Rosehill where he will kick off his campaign in surprise circumstances.
Having won the Sandown Cup after not making it to Flemington, Yogi then produced three failed attempts at Group 1 level and following a poor run in the Sydney Cup, his trainers have changed plans.
"We were going to pop him out for the spring but there's a lot of nice races in winter for him," co-trainer David Eustace said.
"It's just been a process of waiting for the right race and having him right and ready to go."
Yogi hasn't been seen since racing in the Sydney Cup on Day of The Championships but Eustace is confident he has enough fitness in his legs to be competitive over the 2400m distance this weekend.
"He's moving great and enjoying the Sydney winter a little bit more than the Melbourne winter," Eustace said.
"His trials and his work have been quite good, so we expect him to be in the mix."
Bookmakers are confident of a good run. BetEasy has Yogi currently quoted at 5.50.
