Wyong Racing Tips 3.09.2021 - Premier Racing Tips

Friday racing moves to Wyong on September 3, and we have our four best bets available. Our tips include the Mona Lisa Stakes and Wyong Gold Cup, which feature on the eight-race card.
  • Race 2 1:25pm AEST – No. 11 Ruinart
  • Race 5 3:20pm AEST – No. 9 Fumiko
  • Race 6 3:55pm AEST – No. 3 Great News
  • Race 7 4:35pm AEST – No. 9 Criminal Code

Race 2 1:25pm AEST – No. 11 Ruinart

The John O’Shea-trained three-year-old finished eighth on debut as a favourite at Canterbury in January. She hasn’t been seen since at the races, but the daughter of Hallowed Crown has plenty of class on her side. She won a trial at Randwick and looked good in the process. If she can replicate that effort on race day, she could break maiden grades and rise the ranks.

Drawing barrier 13 isn’t ideal but having James McDonald in the saddle helps. He will likely be positive from the gates and the betting signs are good. She opened at $3.80 before being backed into $2.70, which is a sizable move for the favourite.

Race 5 3:20pm AEST – No. 9 Fumiko

The three-year-old filly looked the goods when winning on debut at Newcastle before finishing fifth in a tough race at Rosehill. She scored by 1.5 lengths on debut as a double-figure chance before running only 2.9 lengths behind Overmann and subsequent two-time winner Volcanic Rock at Rosehill. The daughter of Flying Artie looks to have a bright future and that’s reflected in the market.

She opened as favourite and having James McDonald riding is a positive. He has a good book of rides on the premier Friday card, so he could be a jockey to follow. We would be surprised if Fumiko wasn’t fighting out the finish.

Race 6 3:55pm AEST – No. 3 Great News

Great News is often great news for punters. The Kim Waugh-trained mare owns five wins and six placings from 11 starts, so she has yet to miss a placing. That consistency is what punters love and she deserves to be favourite for the Mona Lisa Stakes. She comes off a second placing behind Fituese in the Toy Show off a wide barrier, so that form bodes well for this level of racing.

If she had drawn a better barrier than 14, her odds would be around $2.30. Joshua Parr has his work to do from out there, but she has good tactical pace. Expect the daughter of Uncle Mo to find a nice spot on the outside before looming large in the straight.

Race 7 4:35pm AEST – No. 9 Criminal Code

Value is with Criminal Code, who looked good winning earlier this preparation. The Chris Waller-trained gelding hasn’t had much go his way since, including missing the jump at Kembla Grange last Saturday, but he’s on the quick back-up and we like that. The five-year-old is only a three-time winner from 19 starts, but he has been running solid races against tough opposition.

Rising slightly in distance is no concern and he handles all track conditions, so punters should be confident. The $9 makes him worth the risk.
