Wangaratta racing takes place on Thursday, March 13, with an eight-race program set down for Wangaratta racetrack.
- Race 1 No. 6- All Kinds Of Folk
- Race 4 No. 12- Geemes
- Race 7 No. 1- Amphactor
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Wangaratta racetrack.
Race 1 No. 6- All Kinds Of Folk
All Kinds Of Folk should be hard to beat in the opener. The locally trained galloper is yet to win in seven starts but boasts some impressive form earlier at her initial preparation that saw her place 4th at Group 2 level last spring at Flemington. She resumed at Sandown on February 26 over the 1300m and settled just worse than midfield before producing the second fastest last 200m to plce 4th behind Bossy Benita. This looks easier and at her last campaign she improved on benchmark figures when second up with a 4th in strong form race at Ballarat before her effort in the Edward Manifold Stakes. She should have the edge on this lot.
Race 4 No. 12- Geemes
This shapes as the one for Geemes to take out her Maiden. The Ciaron Maher filly has gone close at her past few starts and went hard out in front when stepping up to the 2000m for the first time on January 30 when fading late into 4th place at Pakenham before settling handy at Ballarat over the 2000m and looking the winner, only to go down in the shadows of the post behind No Rumours, holding a big gap to 3rd, who has since come out and won. The daughter of Grunt comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner and should be at peak fitness.
Race 7 No. 1- Amphactor
Race 7 is a BenchMark 64 over the 1590m and Amphactor can go close to taking this out. The Mark & Levi Kavanagh-trained galloper resumed at Kilmore on February 21 and settled back before producing the fastest last 200m to place 4th behind Spirit Of Jo. He made his mark over longer distances earlier in his career but his performances over the 1400m-1600m distance range have been sound and this does not look to be a strong race. A firmer in the early betting, the five-year-old will strip fitter and the rise in trip suits, while he draws to enjoy the run of the race from barrier 4.
