Townsville racing takes place on Friday, March 14 with a 7-race program set down for Townsville racetrack.

Race 3: No.5 Sweet Kisses
Race 5: No.3 Tsunami
Race 7: No.1 Chartwell

Race 3: No.5 Sweet Kisses

The Georgie Bourke-trained Sweet Kisses is a Cluden Park specialist and with a new rider today, ticks all the boxes that say this race is hers to lose.

Last start, the Better Than Ready mare settled just behind the speed, one off the fence but in the run home, spotted the leader too much start and arrived too late to claim victory, taking home second prize in the 1300m event on the Townsville track.

She returns to her comfort zone today and steps up to the 1400m trip where she is a four-time winner and has Justin Stanley steering the ship for the first time.

From gate four, she maps to lead this field with no early speed other than her own in the race.

Boasting three wins at the track and distance from as many starts, the four-year-old will be at her peak today and surely just bad luck will be her only enemy in this contest.

Race 5: No.3 Tsunami

Tablelands trainer Roy Chillemi saddles-up Tsunami here who is second-up and if first-up impressions count, he will take a ton of beating in this event.

Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding had his first start for the stable after leaving the Michael Freedman camp down south and resuming off a 22-week break, destroyed his rivals in the 1200m Maiden on the Cluden Park track.

Sent out a white-hot $1.30 favourite, he put six lengths on them in the run home, eventually eased over the final stages by Amanda Thomson to win by four lengths on the line.

Struggling on NSW provincial tracks, he seems to have found a happy home in North Queensland and despite a wide draw today (8 of 9), he still maps to zip the gates and lead on settling with Thomson aboard again.

Whatever beats him today will be claiming the winner’s cheque.

Race 7: No.1 Chartwell

Formerly with the Neasham & Archibald camp, Chartwell has had two starts for the Rhein Sewell stable now and looks ready to show his best in this event.

Last start, the Churchill gelding showed plenty of improvement off his first look at Townsville’s Cluden Park track when beat all but one home in a BM65 over 1000m with Issy Teh in the saddle.

Sitting last of the five runners, The rode the gelding patiently and after taking the home turn via the cape, she got the five-year-old going and he stormed home, only to miss collecting the major prize by a nose on the line.

He steps up to the 1300m today which looks ideal for him after two runs back with Justin Stanley as the new pilot for this assignment.

Ideally drawn in gate two, he maps to do no early work and should settle mid-field with cover.

Race fit and ready to rock, a clear run to the line should see him storming home again and very hard to hold out in this contest.
