Thousand Guineas Tips & Runner-by-Runner Preview

Group 1 racing continues on Wednesday with the Thousand Guineas. The rescheduled race now takes place midweek, which adds excitement to the Caulfield card.

Runners from all around Australia line up for the big prize, including Queensland's Hinged, Melbourne's Zouzarella, and Sydney's Swift Witness.

We look at the form of every runner in the Thousand Guineas on Wednesday.

Swift Witness

Swift Witness is a tough type from Sydney who scored a good win fresh up. She tried hard when fourth in the Flight Stakes last start, so we wouldn't rule her out of selections despite the double-figure odds available.

Hinged

The Queenslander showed her ability when running second in the Flight Stakes. That was a tough run behind Never Been Kissed, and she was hitting the line with purpose. Most of the money has come for Hinged, which is a good sign.

Elusive Express

A winner on debut and she got back to that form when scoring at Flemington last start. She got the better of Yearning, so it was a good form guide, and despite drifting with bookmakers, punters should rule her out.

Bon's A Pearla

A value runner after scoring consecutive wins. She won at Sandown before scoring another upset win at Caulfield last start. The three-year-old got the better of Heresy, who is much shorter in betting markets. Value could be with the daughter of Bon Hoffa.

Literary Magazine

She won on debut but has been kept in check since. The daughter of Written Tycoon might be suited to something slightly easier, which is explained by her big odds.

Zouzarella

A quality filly who was unlucky not to win last start. She got too far off the pace and had to do a lot of late work, but she shapes up as a leading chance. Her first two wins defied betting drifts, which she might have to do again.

Heresy

Second behind Bon's A Pearla last start and she didn't have much luck in running after getting caught wide. Better than many in this race, so we wouldn't leave her out off the inside draw with Damien Oliver riding.

Queen of Dubai

A two-time winner in this preparation, but she would need to lift to handle this field. She has shown good barrier speed to date but we can't have her in our selections.

Yearning

Wouldn't mind having a share in the ownership as she looks like a genuine type. A good winner two back before running a slightly unlucky placing last start. Include her at value odds.

Barb Raider

Looked good winning the Oaks Prelude last start, but we think she's using this run to get miles in her legs. The big target is the Oaks during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, so that's where she's likely to strike.

Cuban Link

Searching for three consecutive wins after scoring at Cranbourne and Flemington. However, we would be surprised if that form came to the fore here.

Achira

Got past maiden grades with a win last start, but she rises right up in class now. Likely to struggle.

Fortunate Kiss

Fifth behind Queen of Dubai last start and she would need to find a few lengths to turn that result around.

Verdict

We're going with Zouzarella to win the Thousand Guineas. She looked excellent winning her first two starts before getting too far back last start.

Hinged is the obvious threat after a stellar Flight Stakes effort. The Queenslander could run the quinella.
