Strathalbyn racing takes place on Wednesday, March 12 with an 8-race program set down for Strathalbyn racetrack.

Race 5: No.5 Anphina
Race 6: No.12 Super Lad
Race 8: No.6 Blissful Bay

Race 5: No.5 Anphina

The Nell Carter-trained Anphina is now four starts into this campaign and has improved enough to suggest she is ready to win.

Last start, the Rebel Dane mare showed plenty of improvement when she beat all but one home in a BM56, here over 2050m.

After drawing wide in gate 10 (of 12), she settled near last but put in a big run around the field and stormed home to grab second prize in the race.

Margaret Collett was aboard for the first time and is sticking with the mare in this event.

From gate seven, she maps to settle near mid-field with cover and at her peak here, she should prove hard to hold out over the same trip.

Race 6: No.12 Super Lad

Chris Beig saddles-up Super Lad here who is second-up and although still a maiden, looks in the mix to crack his first win in this Class 1 event.

Last start, the Grunt gelding resumed off a 19-week absence and showed plenty of zip when finishing third in a 1000m Maiden Plate at Port Lincoln.

Settling near the back of the field, he gradually clawed his way back into the race but in the end, gave them too much start, having to settle for the minor prize.

Felicity Atkinson was aboard that day and has the reins again for this assignment.

Fitter for that first-up run, the 1200m looks ideal for him here and with a little less weight, he looks in the mix to score his first win in this contest.

Race 8: No.6 Blissful Bay

The Darryl Dodson-trained galloper is third-up here and after putting in the big ones at Penola, looks set to play a major role in this event.

Last start, the Hualalai gelding came off an unplaced effort on debut when he turned that all around and destroyed his rivals in a 1300m Maiden at Penola.

Drawn wide in gate 10 (of 11), Kayla Crowther settled him near last and trapped wide without cover before making a forward move before the turn and on straightening, put in the challenge and raced away to win, putting 3.5 lengths on them over the line.

He takes the next step here and faces BM58 company where he will only strip fitter and from gate four, he maps to settle near mid-field with cover this time.

Crowther sticks with him and with a little luck in running, he can find clean air in the run home and be there at the finish.
