Race 5: No.4  Light Years Charm


The David Eustace-trained galloper is in top-shelf form and ticks all the boxes here that suggest he will take beating in this event.

Last start, the Rubick gelding came off a Class 3 win on this track when he stepped-up in grade and franked that win, clobbering his rivals in the stronger Class 2 event, here over 1400m.

Slowly away, he tailed out to last, three lengths behind the horse in front of him and patiently ridden by Zac Purton, remained there to the turn.

On straightening, Purton let him go inside the final 200m and he cruised to victory, putting 1.5 lengths on them over the line.

He meets similar opposition here over the same trip and from gate 10 (of 12), Purton looks set to adopt the same tactics as last start and settle him back in the field again.

A track specialist who is high-flying at the moment, he looks the testing material in this contest.


Race 7: No.6  Majestic Express


The John Size-trained galloper comes off a last-start win and looks well placed here for back-to-back success in this event.

Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding found his mojo and broke a run of outs by beating home a Class 3 field, here over the 1000m sprint.

With Brenton Avdulla aboard for his tenth ride on the gelding, he settled him near last on the fence (down the straight course) before asking him for a final effort over the last 200m where he ran home strongly and grabbed victory on the line.

He appears to do his best work when settling back in the field and from gate three tonight, he maps to be sitting in the back half with cover.

A clear run to the line here should see him there at the finish again.


Race 10: No.4  Flying Luck


Caspar Fownes saddles-up Flying Luck here who has been as honest as they come in recent racing and looks well placed here for another Sha Tin victory tonight.

Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding was slowly away and settled worse than mid-field (on the fence with cover) before losing his spot approaching the turn.

Brenton Avdulla had to ease him wide and cross heels to find clean air before straightening as the widest runner where he still ran home strongly, finishing fifth in the 14-strong field, beaten three lengths on the line.

He draws gate four tonight and with a clean start, maps to settle mid-field or better with new rider Ellis Wong in the saddle.

The four-year-old won here four starts back over the mile trip which he takes on again in this assignment.

With better luck in running here, he looks a serious contender for the major prize in this contest.
