Scone racing takes place on Monday, April 14 with an 8-race program set down for Scone racetrack.
  • Race 2: No.6  Rail Trail
  • Race 4: No.1  New Pharoah
  • Race 6: No.5  Leovanni
  • Race 7: No.7  Kantishna

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for  Scone racetrack.

Race 2: No.6  Rail Trail

The Mack Griffith-trained Rail Trail is third-up today and looks well placed to go one better in this event.

Last start, the Alabama Express gelding was second-up and again found one better on the day, finishing second in a Maiden Plate over 1000m on a Heavy 8 at Wellington.

He draws nicely in gate four today and maps to be leading the way on settling with new rider Braith Nock in the saddle.

Placed at the track two starts back on a Soft 5, similar conditions today look ideal for him and if they allow him to dominate the speed here, he can give them something to catch in this contest.

Race 4: No.1  New Pharoah

The Brett Cavanough-trained New Pharoah has impressed this preparation and third-up today looks set for back-to-back success in this event.

Last start, the American Pharoah gelding improved enough off his first-up run to break through for his first win by taking out a 1400m Maiden at Tamworth.

Braith Nock had him box-seating on settling and over the final 100m, took control and finished best to collect the winner’s cheque that day.

He has since won a trial on the Tamworth track.

Well drawn in gate four today, Nock sticks with him where he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and with a clear run to the line, he can claim his second-straight victory in this contest.

Race 6: No.5  Leovanni

The Neasham & Archibald camp saddle-up Leovanni here has found the podium in all four starts this campaign and looks ideally placed here to break through for her first success.

Last start, the Proisir filly claimed another minor prize when she beat all but one home in a Maiden Plate over 1400m at Canberra.

She blew the start (almost falling) and settled a clear last before scouting wide on the turn and powering home, arriving in time to claim the silver medal in the race with Heavelon Van Der Hoven aboard for the second time.

The three-year-old gets the chance to bounce back here where she gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to settle near mid-field on the fence.

Van Der Hoven retains the ride for this assignment and if the filly can find clear passage in the run home, she should prove hard to hold out in this contest.

Race 7: No.7  Kantishna

Local trainer Scott Singleton has Kantishna engaged here who just has to overcome a wide draw to be fighting out the finish in this event today.

Last start, the Headwater filly was coming off four-straight podium finishes when she finished unplaced in a BM66 over 1000m at Muswellbrook.

Having no luck early, she was caught three-wide to the turn before scouting even wider as they straightened and despite running on well, could reel them in, beaten just over a length on the line.

Less than 1.5 lengths covered the first six across the line that day.

Christian Reith rode her to a first-up maiden win this preparation and returns to take the reins for this assignment.

She draws wide in gate ten but her early gate speed sees the filly settling better than mid-field with cover.

If she can cross and settle quickly, she has the race fitness now to be more than just competitive here and looks a strong winning chance in this contest.
