  • Belmont

Race 3 1:40pm OFF THE TRACK PRELUDE Tips

Heresy is all the rage after finishing second behind Gimmie Par fresh up and following it with a third placing at Caulfield behind Bruckner and Artorius. The James Cummings-trained three-year-old looks to have a bright future and we would be surprised if she wasn’t heavily backed on race day.

Xtra Gear and Devout Hero could have bright futures, so add them to selections.

Race 6 3:35pm 4CYTE FOR LIVING LEGENDS BM90 Tips

The standout pick is Annavisto, who finished close behind subsequent winner Turaath at Caulfield last start. It was a fantastic return to racing for the daughter of Reliable Man, and she could kick on with it. Her opening odds have been taken and her current odds could continue to firm on race day.

It’s a wide-open field including Harmony Rose and talented Kiwi Amarelinha, but we’re going with another Kiwi runner in Atishu. She was given a poor ride last start when flashing home late, so we’re prepared to forgive the effort. She meets a harder field, but she is a nice spring type who will love carrying 53.5kg. She is being underrated in betting markets, so take the value available.

A lot of the talk has been about the return of Rothfire from a devastating injury, but we’re sticking with Nature Strip. He likes this distance and he never left second gear when winning fresh up, so he might have matured nicely this season. James McDonald sticks with The Everest contender, who can’t be overlooked.

Rothfire is a nice type, but coming off a long break is never easy against fit horses. We’re surprised by the odds for the Queenslander.

The big field could cause a surprise result, but we’re backing the favourite. She’s Ideel is an exciting stayer who flashed home for third fresh up at Group 1 level. She was only fair last start, but that was a case of second-up syndrome. Carrying 53kg is ideal and punters get value odds.

Gold Coast

The Move is all the rage after scoring three consecutive wins and he is good enough to continue winning. He started his winning streak at Warwick Farm before adding comfortable wins at Doomben, including a 3.5-length win last time out. It’s impressive form and the $2 is a fair price for a quality type.

Sugar Boom is another capable sprinter who could add value to this race.

Run for Glory comes off two placings at Eagle Farm and Doomben, so he’s knocking on the door of a breakthrough win. The five-year-old is a six-time winner from 15 starts, so he’s no stranger to crossing the line first. Punters have backed him in after opening at $4.20, so it’s a sizable move for the favourite.

Full Nelson and Couldn’t Refuse are safe in the market, so add them in multiples.

Race 1 12:42pm WILLS & DANIEL BM66 Tips

We’re going with Karacasu in the opening race of the card. The Jolly-trained three-year-old has yet to finish worse than second from four attempts, which is a quality record. His win came three back at Morphettville, so he knows this track well. He finished second behind Heresy last start, and we think that form bodes well for the spring.

Support has come for Hanabi after a good win last start, but the top weight looks to have the class advantage.

Race 6 3:47pm SCHILD ESTATE BM72 Tips

We can’t overlook the form of Melody Man. He has been in terrific form this preparation, which includes two impressive wins. He meets a harder field this time around, but he has rewarded punters so far and there’s no reason to jump off his back.

Race 2 3:19pm SCHWEPPES BM72 Tips

Most of the money has come for Kaptain Kaos and it’s not hard to see why. The four-year-old owns five wins from nine starts and he’s unbeaten in two attempts at Belmont. It’s an impressive record and the odds-on quote isn’t surprising. He draws the inside barrier, so he gets every chance in the run.

Rebel Knight and Zephyr Queen have talent, so watch for late betting moves.
