Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington, Randwick, Eagle Farm, Morphettville & Belmont on July 17
Blackbook experts preview all five metro meetings with Saturday racing tips for Flemington, Randwick, Eagle Farm, Morphettville, and Belmont on July 17.
Race 2 12:30 - AEST K.A MORRISON HANDICAP Tips
Most of the early money has come for Tuvalu and rightfully so. The Lindsay Smith-trained three-year-old scored on debut by seven lengths at Warrnambool before scoring by 2.5 lengths over a good field at Sandown. He likes to jump and run and never give them a chance, which is a good trait for a racehorse to have.
I’m Thunderstruck and Sir Davy are also talented types, so they could run the trifecta, but Tuvalu looks to have the edge.
Race 3 13:05 - AEST RMBL INVESTMENTS BM84 Tips
We were impressed by Lindhout last time out and she could be the best-backed favourite of the day. The four-year-old mare comes off a two-length win at Flemington and she looks likely to kick on with the job now. Getting a 3kg claimer in the saddle is ideal and the lengthy Flemington straight allows her time to hit her straps and flash late.
She defeated race-rival Galgani, who looked good halfway down the straight but was run down by Lindhout last start. She was a good thing beaten two back and her chances of running the quinella again on Saturday are strong.
Race 6 15:00 - SIR EUGENE GORMAN HANDICAP Tips
Degraves is a former European that scored by a half-length at Flemington. He got to the lead and started to look around, so he’s still learning and that is a good sign. He should have won by multiple lengths, so the win was better than it looked. It was his third win from eight starts and two of those wins have come at this distance. 1.5kg comes off his back, so carrying 52.5kg makes him tough to handle.
Dice Roll deserves another chance after being unsuited by leading last start. He didn’t enjoy being in front and that run capped off three consecutive wins, so the class is there and we wouldn’t rule him out.
Race 2 11:40 - TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP Tips
There has been good money come for Private Agent, which gets the services of James McDonald. The three-year-old owns a win and a placing from three starts and he’s in good hands. Trainer Kurt Goldman knows how to train winners of the Highway Handicap and he looked good when running second at Goulburn last start.
Highway Handicaps are always tough races, so there are plenty of winning chances. Lady River and Anethole have attracted interest in betting markets and they could push the favourite close.
Race 4 12:50 - CITY TATTERSALLS BM78 Tips
Zing showed good speed when scoring an overdue win at Rosehill last start and she has finished worse than second only once from five starts on the track. After opening at $4, her odds have drifted and that’s likely due to the betting support for La Chevalee, who is our top pick to win.
The Maher/Eustace-trained four-year-old is nearing a win after four starts this preparation and this looks an ideal target for the mare. She jumps off the inside draw and gets the services of James McDonald, so there is plenty of things in her favour.
Race 9 16:00 - TAX TODAY BM78 Tips
Looking to win three on the bounce is Expat, who has a stellar career consisting of five wins from eight starts. The three-year-old filly scored at Rosehill on a heavy track two back by a length before winning by two lengths last time out. Those were good efforts and she is unbeaten on heavy tracks, so conditions are right up her alley.
Eight Diamonds is the biggest threat to the favourite following a win at Canterbury. She won by two lengths and she could be heading through the grades in style.
Race 1 11:48 - TAB VENUE MODE HANDICAP Tips
Robert Heathcote lines up the two-year-old gelding that scored by a nose on debut and he finished a close third last time out. The son of Spill the Beans should get every chance from barrier four and there are no superstars in this field, so he could take advantage.
Allusionist and Crymenotears are both on the second line of betting and they have upside. Allusionist has yet to win from two starts, but he looks like a talented future winner, so keep him safe.
Race 8 16:08 - TAB HANDICAP Tips
Punters will have to take short odds for favourite Triple Ace, but he is clearly the best horse in the race. The three-year-old gelding owns four wins and four placings from eight starts, so he has yet to finish out of the money. He opened at much better odds with bookmakers, but the value is still there and we wouldn’t be backing against him.
The only other supported runner is Derulo, who is shooting for three wins on the bounce. He owns six wins from 13 starts and he could push the favourite.
Race 4 13:52 - SOUTH BEEF R62 HANDICAP Tips
Despite winning only one of his eight career starts, Harpuna is the runner to back in this race. The Peter Hardacre-trained four-year-old owns five placings and he has been threatening to win another race at this level. The son of Kuroshio gets the inside draw to his advantage and he could lead and kick away from them.
Carrying 60kg is the only negative, but he’s the class act of this field and he deserves a winning turn.
Race 8 16:27 - FURPHY BM76 Tips
Most of the money has come for Frankie Pinot and it’s not hard to see why. The four-year-old gelding is a three-time winner from eight starts and his effort to win at Morphettville last start was excellent, so he could go back-to-back. Barrier three is ideal and there has been a stack of money come for him since markets opened.
Reynolds and Typhoon Harmony are the main dangers after showing winning form this season. They will likely show good early speed and try to give a kick at the top of the straight.
Race 1 14:07 - FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK 2YO Tips
Winning form looks good for this race and Storm Commander comes off a tidy effort at Belmont. The son of Rommel scored by a half-length and he showed a devastating turn-of-foot, which will win him many races. Barrier seven is the only negative, but he will likely settle back in the run and hit the line well again.
The second and third favourites have yet to win a race, so that plays into the hands of Storm Commander.
