Saturday Racing Tips

Saturday racing tips this week come from Belmont, Eagle Farm, Flemington, Morphettville and Scone.

The Blackbook tipsters have the best bets picked out for May 14 racing around the country.

Belmont

Belmont Best Bet - Race 9 No. 2 Secret Plan

One of the more talented sprinters in the west and now in his fifth campaign, it's time this Peters runner delivered on that early promise. His spring form around Wilchino, Son Of A God and Triple Missile suggests he's at least stakes class, while he has always come to hand early in his work.

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 7 Lord Lonsdale

After a nice April 2 return over 1100m when recording comfortably the last 600m (coming from the rear), it was a similar second-up effort over 1200m. Lord Lonsdale once again ran the fastest last 600m and now suited to 1400m third-up this Saturday, he's well placed to record win three.

Belmont Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 14 Kaptain Kaos

If you're keen to look around the smart Elite Street in the Roma Cup, then you're getting a price for everything else and that includes Kaptain Kaos, who has trialled up strongly twice. He worked through the grades quickly last year, his 1200m record is superb and he's unbeaten at Belmont.

Belmont Value Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Mosquito

Was strong late fresh as he was second-up behind a smart Hardly Ever, when switching right off heels and was still last approaching the 150m. A three-year-old who won his maiden at start three before a spell, he clearly has a future and now getting to the seven-furlongs should be suitable.

Belmont Roughie - Race 6 No. 8 She's Enchanted

Recorded a soft Lark Hill trial win ahead of this return assignment and the Belmont 1000m has been the sweet spot for this mare, with both career victories coming over this track/trip, including one on soft ground. Her form around Amasenus last autumn is starting to stack up very well.

Eagle Farm

EXTRAS: Get $3.70 for James McDonald to ride 2+ winners

Eagle Farm Best Bet - Race 4 No. 10 Startantes

Should simply be winning after measuring up in WFA class last time behind Count De Rupee who is a single figure chance in the 10,0000. Up to 1400m again for the fourth time, her last attempt over this journey was on heavy ground in the Group 1 Surround Stakes when only beaten a lip.

Eagle Farm Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Juan Diva

This mare was a dynamic winner at Caulfield last start and looks to have just come back a bigger and better mare this campaign, which could be heading towards features such as the Tiara later in the Carnival. Is a dual second-up winner and being by Snitzel, she handles soft ground fine.

Eagle Farm Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 14 Isotope

There is rain due, but this track has shown how well it drains and convinced that we will not see a heavy surface, which would ultimately put this girl out of the race. Is still unbeaten in soft ground and if not for poor run on a bottomless Randwick track, she would be a clear second fav.

Eagle Farm Value Bet - Race 7 No. 11 Ashgrove

This staying colt stuck on well in the Queensland Guineas when he found a couple sharper, en route to the Queensland Derby. Likely to be at his top next start, the son of Dundeel can still run a big race with Jamie Kah in the saddle and be in the money once again at a decent price.

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 2 No. 11 Our Rebel

Well beaten first-up, but after racing wide and then badly inconvenienced, it's worth putting a line through that performance. This four-year-old has won at Eagle Farm and recorded three victories last winter. There are queries on all the favs here and after working across, he can give cheek.

TRAINER MARKETS: How many winners will Chris Waller train?

Flemington

Flemington Best Bet - Race 8 No. 17 Triple Missile

A very talented and lightly raced ex-WA sprinter who can easily measure up in group company, he recorded stronger figures that the Group 1 Winterbottom in his last Perth victory. Loomed to win the Wangoom, but didn't quite get through a Heavy 10 and should be suited at Flemington.

Flemington Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 9 Arran Bay

Should have won last start. but hung-in when put under pressure, going down a head on the line. Plummets 7kg for this race including in-form apprentice Alana Kelly's claim. Recorded some superb wins in SA when last in work and was close up in a strong Flemington race to finish that prep.

Flemington Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 8 Through Irish Eyes

A winner of last year's VRC St Leger over this track/trip, Through Irish Eyes looks set for a peak performance in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes. He was just a run short third-up when hitting a flat spot and then at Caulfield, would've beaten Point Nepean with even luck. Back to Flemington is a tick.

Flemington Value Bet - Race 3 No. 4 General Firepower

Comes from the firing Mike Moroney stable and closed off hard last start against similar opposition, while the 1700m at Flemington looks ideal. The blinkers go on for the first time to try and help him settle a little closer in the run as it will be his racing pattern that costs his going forward.

Flemington Roughie - Race 5 No. 10 Beaufort Park

Was only three lengths from Regardsmaree and Buffalo River when in the worst ground at Sandown last start. His late work at his two prior starts was strong and now stepping up to 1600m, this will be in his zone, especially back to a BM78. Arguably brings the strongest form into this affair.

JOCKEY MARKETS: Get $6 for Craig Williams to ride 2+ winners

Flemington Selections:

Race 1: 6,3,10,7. Race 2: 5,3,7,6. Race 3: 4,2,5,3. Race 4: 2,1,10,16. Race 5: 10,15,8,9. Race 6: 9,8,13,2. Race 7: 8,5,10,1. Race 8: 17,10,3,8. Race 9: 13,10,1,2.

Morphettville

Morphettville Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Twin Stars

Is racing as though he'll eat up 1400m, with the son of Zoustar catching the eye from last when runner-up to the smart See You Heaven in the Breeders' Stakes first-up and on debut, he toyed with All Sassed Up in a Magic Millions event. From a better draw, we want them more positive.

Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Howl

Won two of his first three then answered the challenge in a BM72 last Oct. A talented sprinter with a big finish, his jump-outs had been strong ahead of his return, where he was in the wrong part of the track for a narrow defeat. With a tick-over trial and Gatt back on, this looks the target.

Morphettville Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 6 Detonator Jack

Prepared by the powerful Maher & Eustace stable and will again be partnered by John Allen, who has ridden four of the last six SA Derby winners. The son of Jakkalberry is unbeaten from three runs, defeating subsequent Sydney winner Hameron two back before a 2100m victory on a Soft 7.

Morphettville Value Bet - Race 4 No. 8 Arkham Knight

This veteran is racing well this prep, finishing in the money via all three runs and the latest was a second at Oakbank when defeating Morvada (subsequent listed winner), with Magic Millions winner Zoist taking that event out. That's very strong form for this and the blinkers now go on.

Morphettville Roughie - Race 9 No. 12 Sitting Bull

Doesn't necessarily jump off the page on form, but was very impressive in a lead-up trial at Murray Bridge, moving effortlessly through his gears on May 5. Both of his victories have come first-up and getting back off a good tempo in an open race to finish the card, he can get home.

DOUBLE: Get $4.20 for Illation & Alegron to both Win

Morphettville Selections:

Race 1: 12,11,2,6. Race 2: 9,15,5,3. Race 3: 1,7,3,2. Race 4: 8,1,10,12. Race 5: 5,1,11,6. Race 6: 4,11,3,7. Race 7: 1,5,2,4. Race 8: 6,7,1,15. Race 9: 12,4,1,6.

Scone

Scone Best Bet - Race 6 No. 13 I Am Me

Couldn't be in better touch for this black-type attempt, with the Maher & Eustace three-year-old arriving off a winning hat-trick and is back against the fillies after making light work of Florescent Star at Flemington, who is no slouch. Maps very well versus many rivals that have had chances.

Scone Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 7 The Dramatist

Carries 54.5kg after the Reece Jones claim, who was aboard for a Class 1 win on Tamworth Cup Day where they defied an inside and on-speed pattern , proving too classy despite covering ground. Although this four-year-old is still learning the caper, local trainer Rod Northam has a handy one.

Scone Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 16 La Gai Soleil

Backed up strong trials to win stylishly first-up before a second-up flop as fav, where she failed to settle over a mile off a slower speed. With a freshen-up and two strong trials, she comes back to 1400m, which given she gets a faster speed over these journeys, it may be the right set-up for her.

Scone Value Bet - Race 3 No. 4 Mission Phoenix

Was really in need of the run first-up off a 15-month lay-off and after an improved second-up effort, was only denied at Hawkesbury by Deepstrike, a classy and hard-fit visitor who dropped in grade to complete a hat-trick. Races handy and should go close with a little more improvement here.

Scone Roughie - Race 9 No. 7 Surreal Step

Made his stable debut for Brad Widdup at Hawkesbury and ridden quieter than usual, was easily the pick of the closers in on-pace dominated race, getting the better of Marboosha, who has been thereabouts over the carnival. Ideally, this would be a shade further, but it will be a testing 1100m.

Scone Selections:

Race 1: 7,4,6,10. Race 2: 4,6,13,5. Race 3: 4,1,3,13. Race 4: 4,3,5,9. Race 5: 3,11,18,8. Race 6: 13,7,3,6. Race 7: 4,1,12,3. Race 8: 16,9,1,15. Race 9: 7,2,3,6. Race 10: 1,8,4,3.
