Race 3 1:35pm AEST – No. 2 Choisir Lane
The Price/Kent-trained three-year-old scored impressively on debut and she could remain unbeaten on Wednesday. She is a daughter of Choisir that scored by 1.8 lengths at Ballarat and she is capable of handling the rise in class. Having Damien Oliver take over the riding is a good sign and she shouldn’t have much trouble finding a good spot from barrier four.
It’s an even field and that’s evident in the betting. However, she looks to have more promise than most and we would be surprised if her odds didn’t firm on race day. She has plenty of scope and punters should climb into the price.
Race 4 2:10pm AEST – No. 9 Livingstone Falls
Livingstone Falls has yet to finish outside the placings and we don’t think that will change here. The Andrew Noblet-trained mare owns a win and four placings from five starts, and she comes off a third placing where she didn’t get much luck in the run. Jockey John Allen struggled to find a spot a good spot, so she didn’t get a drag into the race.
Drawing barrier 10 allows her to find a rhythm on the outside of runners and that is a positive. She will likely settle midfield with cover and work into the race at the top of the Sandown straight, which is long enough for the back markers to hit the line nicely.
Race 6 3:20pm AEST – No. 11 Hosier
Hosier looks like the bet of the day, but punters will have to take short odds. The European import is unbeaten in two starts since arriving in Australia and the opposition hasn’t come close. The son of Camelot broke maiden grades when scoring by 5.5 lengths at Bendigo and the rise in class posed no problems earlier this month. He won by four lengths on his ear last time out and despite rising in class, he is the testing material.
Bookmakers were offering $1.85 when markets opened, which was taken immediately. Punters are still getting value odds as we priced him around the $1.45 mark. He should put another dent in this field and he’s an exciting stayer in the making.
Race 7 3:55pm AEST – No. 10 Loveplanet
We were waiting to see a betting push for Loveplanet and it has come. The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old was impressive in winning his last two starts in 2020, and despite a long layoff, he should come back in strong order. The son of Ocean Park broke maidens by six lengths at Yarra Glen before rising in distance and winning by 2.5 lengths at Moonee Valley.
He kicks off his campaign over an unsuitable 1400m distance, but he has the class edge on this field and he’s better than midweek quality. After opening at $3.80, we’re not shocked his odds have firmed slightly. He is a lovely type that won’t need luck from barrier two. Damien Thornton rides and he’s good enough to get the job done, so punters should expect his odds to firm close to start time.
