Sandown Racing Tips 25.08.2021 - Midweek Spring Racing Heats Up

Sandown hosts a midweek meeting on August 25, and we have our four best bets. Bookmakers have our four runners undervalued, so punters can jump on the current prices before they drop on race day.
  • Race 1 12:25pm AEST – No. 2 Frontman
  • Race 3 1:35pm AEST – No. 1 Firstclass Dreamer
  • Race 4 2:10pm AEST – No. 4 The Garden
  • Race 7 3:55pm AEST – No. 10 Invincible Jet

Race 1 12:25pm AEST – No. 2 Frontman

Frontman should enjoy the slightly easier company on Wednesday, and punters get a price worth taking. The Freedman-trained three-year-old kicked off his career with a second placing behind Lightsaber, before running fifth behind the same horse second-up. Lightsaber is a smart type, so those form lines stack up nicely.

The well-bred son of Redoute’s Choice then went to Eagle Farm where he finished second, before running down the track against open class runners at Doomben. His recent trial placing at Cranbourne is a good betting guide and there has been plenty of money come for him in early betting markets. After opening at $4.50, his odds have firmed to $3.80, which is a good sign.

Race 3 1:35pm AEST – No. 1 Firstclass Dreamer

Money has come for Firstclass Dreamer at odds and we’re not surprised. The Matthew Brown-trained six-year-old is a six-time winner overall and two of those wins have come at Sandown, so he loves the track and that should be taken into consideration. He is also a five-time winner over the distances, so the statistics are in his favour.

Getting 3kg off his back helps and there was plenty to like about his recent placing at Sandown. He finished four lengths behind Mr Brightside, but it’s a good form guide. Bookmakers opened him at $12, and there has been a steady flow of money since.

Race 4 2:10pm AEST – No. 4 The Garden

Symon Wilde lines up the four-year-old gelding that has rewarded punters. The son of Shooting to Win has won twice from three starts this preparation, including a classy 3.8-length win at Geelong last start. He showed his ability when winning fresh up at Geelong before running third behind Sacred Palace at Caulfield. Placing in the city is an excellent form guide, and The Garden has a bright future.

We thought he would be much shorter with bookmakers. We priced him around the $2.20 mark, so the opening quote of $3 was a steal. He has firmed slightly, and with the 3kg claim on his back, punters should be expecting another top effort.

Race 7 3:55pm AEST – No. 10 Invincible Jet

Invincible Jet is seeking three consecutive wins after scoring at Kembla Grange and Sandown. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained four-year-old broke maiden grades by 4.8 lengths in December before resuming this preparation with a half-length win at Sandown earlier this month. It was a solid outing against a tidy field, so the form stacks up.

The stable is having a good run of form and having Damien Oliver in the saddle won’t do his chances any harm. Barrier five should see him land close to the speed and we’re not surprised his odds have firmed over a full point with bookmakers.
