Sale Racing Tips 12.08.2021 - Best Midweek Tips

Sale hosts a midweek meeting on Thursday, August 12, and we have our four best bets. Three of our top runners are yet to exit maiden grades, but they're knocking on the door and Thursday could be the day.
  • Race 2 1:00pm AEST – No. 5 The Duke of Dubai
  • Race 3 1:30pm AEST – No. 12 What a Sham
  • Race 5 2:30pm AEST – No. 3 Ima Dozer
  • Race 8 4:00pm AEST – No. 5 Exceed Expect

Race 2 1:00pm AEST – No. 5 The Duke of Dubai

Backing debutantes can be risky, but trainer Mike Moroney looks to have a smart one on his hands at Sale. The three-year-old son of Pride of Dubai looked excellent when winning a jumpout win at Flemington and form out of that meeting should stack up nicely. He is a half-brother to Swords Drawn, which is a capable New Zealand runner that has competed in top company.

Getting barrier four for his debut is ideal and the in-form Jordan Childs takes the ride. He opened at $2.35 and money has come. It’s likely to be stable money and it could pay to watch betting moves on race day as they will be telling.

Race 3 1:30pm AEST – No. 12 What a Sham

The Patrick Payne-trained mare is getting close to a win after posting three consecutive third placings. She started the streak when running third at Swan Hill and she has since added placings at Murtoa and Mildura. The daughter of Shamexpress has started under $5 in two of her last three runs, with the exception of her most recent outing at Mildura.

Punters are getting a fair quote from bookmakers and she should be breaking maiden grade soon. Having Mick Dee in the saddle helps and she won’t need much luck after drawing barrier four, so punters should be confident.

Race 5 2:30pm AEST – No. 3 Ima Dozer

Another runner looking to cap off consistent results is Ima Dozer. The four-year-old gelding has scored three consecutive second placings and it’s about time he won. The son of Delightful Choice finished a nose behind the winner at Bairnsdale before running on an unsuited heavy track at Moe two back. Track conditions improved at Sale last start where he ran second behind I’m a Bronco, so that form looks good.

It’s not an overly strong maiden field and the odds look spot on. He demands attention and should be favourite, so punters should expect another tidy effort.

Race 8 4:00pm AEST – No. 5 Exceed Expect

Exceed Expect made an impression when winning on debut at Ballarat and a repeat of that effort takes him close. The three-year-old colt scored by a narrow margin on a heavy track and he was immediately placed in a tough race at Caulfield. The son of Exceed and Excel had no luck at Caulfield behind Najmaty and he would have gone closer with room in the straight.

He has been given time to recover from that outing and based on his debut, he can run quick times. There is a lack of form in this contest, and although Hydro Star showed ability early on, he hasn’t come on. Therefore, Exceed Expect is the horse to beat on Thursday.
