Rosehill Racing Tips 6.10.2021 - Waller to Dominate

Rosehill hosts an eight-race card on Wednesday, October 6, and we have our four best bets available. Three of our four tips are trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald.
  • Race 3 2:35pm No. 7 Shibli
  • Race 5 3:45pm No. 4 Mightybeel
  • Race 6 4:20pm No. 5 Fumiko
  • Race 8 5:30pm No. 3 April Rain

Race 3 2:35pm No. 7 Shibli

The Chris Waller-trained five-year-old scored a win at Gosford last start, which should be a good form guide for this contest. He scored by a half-length as a short favourite, and punters are getting better odds this time around. The son of Muhaarar finished third behind Brookspire earlier this season before running second to Solar Apex, which has since run well.

Having Hugh Bowman in the saddle is ideal, and despite drifting a touch in betting, we think the late support will come. He looks capable of handling the rise in class, so stick with him.

Race 5 3:45pm No. 4 Mightybeel

The former Kiwi is another Waller-trained runner that looks the goods on Wednesday. He is a son of Savabeel, who owns a win and two second placings from seven starts, so he has been around the mark throughout his career. His resuming run at Gosford came behind stablemate Shibli, so punters will get a good betting guide earlier in the day.

His only career win came second-up, so his fresh up run was ideal. Having James McDonald in the saddle is a bonus, and we expect money to come for the favourite on race day. $2.50 is a fair price given his ability, so take what’s on offer.

Race 6 4:20pm No. 5 Fumiko

Searching for her third win from four starts is Fumiko, who scored by just under a length at Wyong last time out. The Kristen Buchanan-trained filly showed a fine turn-of-foot to score, and that bodes well for her future. She also scored by 1.5 lengths on debut Newcastle before running fifth at Rosehill behind Overmann, and that form bodes well for midweek level.

It’s not an easy field to handle, but she will get every chance in the run from barrier three. She also gets James McDonald in the saddle, so it’s another premium ride for one of Sydney’s best jockeys. He is likely to position his mount just behind the speed before pulling out and launching late down the outside.

Race 8 5:30pm No. 3 April Rain

We think the best horse at the meeting is April Rain, who looked ultra-impressive in winning her first two starts. She followed them up with a second placing at Gosford behind Stellar Pauline before running fifth behind Dream Circle at Randwick, but she didn’t get all favours in the run. Trainer Chris Waller has given her a spell throughout the winter, which should have her ready to fire for this contest.

Her best form comes fresh up, as she’s yet to finish worse than second in three attempts. It’s also another stellar ride for James McDonald, who won’t have to do much work off the inside draw. He is well-positioned to have a successful day at Rosehill.
