Race 3: No.6 Yubetido

Emerald trained Glenda Bell makes the 450klm trek to Rockhampton where she saddles-up Yubetido who is third-up today and boasting a strong record at Callaghan Park, looks a genuine chance to claim victory in this event.

Last start, the So You Think gelding was second-up and did well to finish a close-up third in a BM65 over 1200m at Mackay.

Unwanted in the betting ($16), he sat mid-field on the fence and only found clean air late where he dashed through a small gap to all but win the race, beaten a neck on the line.

They ran 1:11 for the 1200m on a Soft 7 which is moving under the conditions.

Fitter now for two runs back, he steps-up to his pet distance today where he has saluted four times over the 1600m trip and has Warwick Satherley in the saddle for his 15th ride on the seven-year-old and from barrier eight, maps to cross and settle near mid-field.

Already a two-time winner when third-up and a track and distance winner as well, a clear passage in the run home should be all it will take to see him there at the finish.

Race 4: No.4 Daimyo

Locally-trained by Nick Walsh, Daimyo is high-flying just two starts into this campaign and ticks enough boxes here to suggest he will take beating in this event.

Last start, the Japanese-bred gelding was second-up and went one better when he comfortably put away his rivals in a BM60, here over 1050m.

He settled second-last on the fence (in a small field of five) but with plenty of open room down the 600m home straight, he gradually wore them down and finished best to beat home the $1.90 favourite (Alloutatime) by more than a length on the line, with plenty to spare.

Meeting similar company here, he carries 2kgs more but has the experienced Ash Butler in the saddle for the first time and from gate four, maps to settle just behind the speed again.

With clean air in front of him in the run home today, he should prove very hard to hold out in this contest.

Race 6: No.7 Mr Encore

Sunshine Coast visitor Mr Encore has fared well this campaign and taking on country gallopers here, looks in the mix for another win today.

Last start, the Sidestep gelding tried to lead from barrier to box but was denied by a head that day, finishing second in a BM65 on his home track at the Sunshine Coast with Ryan Wiggins in the saddle.

The five-year-old has raced on the Rockhampton track three times previously, claiming two minor prizes in the process.

He draws well in gate five today and maps to be on the speed at barrier rise and drops 2kgs as well for this assignment.

Wiggins is yet to miss a podium finish aboard the galloper, boasting three wins and two minor money finishes from his five previous rides and he is in the driver’s seat again for this assignment.

In search of his first win at the Callaghan Park track, the five-year-old looks well placed here to achieve that goal in this contest.
