Randwick Racing Tips 29.09.2021 - Top Selections

Randwick-Kensington hosts a seven-race card on Wednesday, September 29, and we have our four best bets available. Back the likes of James McDonald, Nash Rawiller, and Hugh Bowman, in what should be a day dominated by the big jockeys and big Sydney stables.
  • Race 1 2:00pm No. 6 California Surreal
  • Race 3 3:10pm No. 9 Beep Test
  • Race 4 3:45pm No. 2 Daysan
  • Race 6 4:55pm No. 9 Torun

Race 1 2:00pm No. 6 California Surreal

We were taken by the performance of California Surreal at Gosford last start, so she goes on top here. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly finished fast for second behind Kooled, which should be a good form guide. She is fitter for two runs back from a spell and the daughter of I Am Invincible is bred to break maiden grades soon.

Bookmakers opened her at $2.70 and she has been confidently backed throughout the week. She has firmed into $2.30, and with only 55kg and James McDonald in the saddle, she has no excuses for not going close.

Race 3 3:10pm No. 9 Beep Test

Beep Test is searching for three consecutive wins after scoring at Gosford and Kembla Grange. The three-year-old filly won by a half-length two back before scoring impressively by 1.3 lengths at Kembla Grange. She has shown excellent versatility throughout her career, which has included setting and pace and coming from off the pace.

We expect her push forward from a wide barrier and make the running. It’s another good ride for James McDonald, who is the man we want in the saddle. Bookmakers have her rock-solid in the market at $3, which is a fair price for a promising type.

Race 4 3:45pm No. 2 Daysan

Daysan is gunning for three wins in a row and we’re putting him on top. The Kris Lees-trained five-year-old scored at Hawkesbury by a length before winning at Newcastle by over a length. Rising in distance has been the catalyst for his success, so rising to 2400m isn’t going to hold any fears. He handled a smart field last time out and the son of Temple City is bred for distance.

Having Hugh Bowman in the saddle is a bonus, and punters are getting each-way odds. The $3.40 is a fair price from bookmakers, especially for the in-form runner of the field. He showed a classy turn-of-foot to score last time out, so if he can repeat that effort, he’ll take some stopping.

Race 6 4:55pm No. 9 Torun

The Joe Pride-trained four-year-old is only a one-race winner, but we think he has another win in store. He comes off an improved effort for fourth at Randwick last start, so having experience on this track is ideal. The son of Medaglia D’oro was only 1.3 lengths behind A Very Fine Red, who raced against much stronger opposition last Saturday.

Punters get value odds for Torun, who should drop back for cover with Nash Rawiller in the saddle. He has drifted since markets opened, but despite the lack of betting support, we’re confident in his chances of producing the goods. We wouldn’t be surprised if his odds firmed on race day.
