Randwick Racing Tips 1.09.2021 - 4 Best Bets

Wednesday racing moves to Randwick on September 1, and we have our four best bets available. Two of our runners scored wins at their first two starts, so they're classy types in Sydney.
  • Race 1 1:25pm AEST – No. 6 Profondo
  • Race 5 3:45pm AEST – No. 9 Morioka
  • Race 6 4:20pm AEST – No. 11 Park Avenue
  • Race 7 4:55pm AEST – No. 8 Sky Command

Race 1 1:25pm AEST – No. 6 Profondo

The Richard Litt-trained three-year-old is on debut and he has been heavily backed to score. He comes off three consecutive trial wins at Randwick and Warwick Farm, which typically bodes well for debutantes. He won all three trials by a length or more, so the class is there, and the son of Deep Impact is bred to be handy.

After bookmakers opened him at $2.80, it has been one-way action. His odds have firmed into $2.20, and we don’t think it will stop there. We see the favourite firming into around $1.80 on race day, which is too short, so take the odds available at they sit.

Race 5 3:45pm AEST – No. 9 Morioka

Morioka was also nominated for Hawkesbury on Tuesday, so it’s good to see connections taking on the harder task. The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old owns four placings from four starts, and the daughter of Maurice drops from open company at Doomben where she finished third behind Rhapsody Rose.

She drops to 54.5kg with James McDonald in the saddle and that is a bonus. She comes off a trial win at Gold Coast where she defeated a solid field, so punters should be expecting another good run. Bookmakers opened her at $3 and those odds have firmed into $2.60, which is still a fair price given her scope.

Race 6 4:20pm AEST – No. 11 Park Avenue

Park Avenue looked above average when winning his first two starts before running third at Randwick last start. The three-year-old son of Fastnet Rock lost no admirers running third behind Verne, and that form stacks up well for the midweek level. His first two wins came by short margins, but that showed his toughness when close to the line.

This isn’t an easy field, but he gets a valuable 1.5kg off his back. Punters have come for him in early markets after opening at $8, so it’s a significant betting push and he could firm into favouritism on Wednesday.

Race 7 4:55pm AEST – No. 8 Sky Command

Sky Command is another runner that scored consecutive wins to open her career. The three-year-old daughter of Deep Field won on debut at Warwick Farm by 2.5 lengths before following it up with a two-length win in open company at Randwick. She had excuses last time out when running eighth at Randwick. She ran behind the likes of Paulele and In The Congo, so that’s Group 1 level form.

Dropping to midweek level is ideal and it’s another good ride for James McDonald. We’re expecting more money to come for her despite opening at $5 and being backed into $3.40. That’s a serious move for a seriously talented type that should rise through the grades.
