- Race 2: No.8 Juan Pablo
- Race 3: No.3 Drunken Sailor
- Race 6: No.2 All Astern
- Race 7: No.4 Rileycat
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Queanbeyan racetrack.
Race 2: No.8 Juan Pablo
The Team Freedman-trained Juan Pablo has been thereabouts at his four career starts to date and looks set to strike in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Pierro gelding finished fourth in a Class 1 Plate over 1800m at Bathurst with Teaque Gould aboard for the first time.
After a slow start, he settled well back in the 11-strong field before running home strongly to finish just behind the placegetters.
He looks ready for further ground now and stepping up to the 2000m trip today looks ideal for him at this stage.
Gould remains aboard and from gate three, saves ground early and maps to settle mid-field near the fence.
He is at his peak today and if the gaps come at the right time, he should be there at the finish in this contest.
Race 3: No.3 Drunken Sailor
The Hawkesbury-based galloper is second-up today and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can take home the spoils in this event.
Last start, the Ocean Park gelding resumed off a five-month absence and clearly in need of the run, still did well to finish mid-field in a strong Class 4 over 1400m at Bathurst with Winona Costin in the saddle.
Fitter for that run, the four-year-old returns to where it all began, winning his maiden here 12 months ago over 1400m.
He steps-up to the mile trip today where he is already a two-time winner and after taking out the Gosford Gold Cup on Les Vampires yesterday, Costin makes the trip to Bathurst here to take the reins for this assignment.
The son of a Cox Plate winner drops back in grade today as he takes on Class 3 company and should find this task a little easier.
Already a winner when second-up and successful at the track, he looks a sound investment for victory in this contest.
Race 6: No.2 All Astern
Nick Olive saddles-up All Astern here who is three starts back from a five-month break and looks well placed here for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Astern mare was third-up and improved enough off her first two runs back to take out a BM50 over 1000m at Canberra.
From gate seven (of eight) and carrying 61.5kgs, Kody Nestor took her straight to the lead where she set a good pace and fought off several challenges in the run home to hang on and claim the major prize in the race.
The five-year-old steps-up slightly in grade here as she faces BM58 company but after the claim (from Caitlin Sinclair), will carry just 56kgs for the event.
She is ideally drawn in gate three where she maps to be showing them the way again and the stable have also chosen to put the tongue tie back on today.
Ironically, she is yet to find the podium in three starts on her home track but at her peak today and meeting them well at the weights, she gets her chance to turn things around in this contest.
Race 7: No.4 Rileycat
The Pat Murphy-trained Rileycat is third-up today and looks well placed to give this event a real shake.
Last start, the Unite And Conquer filly was second-up and improved enough to claim third prize in a Class 1 Hcp over 1400m at Albury.
With Blaike McDougall aboard, he was trapped three-deep without cover and fanned even wider on the turn before putting in the big ones to arrive in time for that last spot on the podium.
Winona Costin is legged aboard for the first time on the three-year-old where she gets the gun-run from gate one and fitter for two runs back, looks a serious contender for the winner’s cheque in this contest.
